My boyfriend and I have been eating here for long enough that I think it's time I give it a review.
We don't eat in as often as we take food home, I have never been given subpar service. While servers may not actively pander to customers, they have always been friendly, polite and have always brought myself and other party members everything we need to enjoy ourselves.
The food itself, in my opinion, is the best overall on Commercial drive, which is saying something. I've been to almost all of the eight or so sushi places within a single kilometre stretch and Kojima is by far my favourite, balancing fair prices with good portion sizes and quality flavour. They have a wide variety of interesting special rolls as well as many other staples of Japanese cuisine that other smaller sushi bars don't always carry. There is something for everyone on the menu, myself and all of my friends have sampled from every section and none of us has ever had anything bad to say. The cuts of fish in the sushi have a good texture and they don't skimp, the gyoza is flavourful (I love the dipping sauce) and I've always loved any noodles I get. Tempura is always crispy, fresh and never soggy. I've never been disappointed by the food and I eat here probably three or four times a month.
TL;DR Delicious food, friendly (but not in your face) staff, reasonable prices. I love introducing my...
Read moreI ordered online for pick up at kojimasushinewwest.com thinking it would be convenient as I was busy with my 3 young kids but when my husband went to pick up the order, I did not get the right order and got charged $8 for “extra sauce” that I did not select online! Who buys $8 worth of soy sauce? I am Asian and can get a full bottle of soy sauce for less than $5?!? When I called the restaurant to let them know of the issue, the 2 employees said there is no manager or owner on site. They even said they already know their online ordering system is broken and a lot of people have complained about the online ordering issues; however they did not take accountability or offer any solution or courtesy for the mistake. They were also not apologetic about the issue and just blamed it all on the company who created their online ordering system. I did not order from another platform like Ubereats or Skip the dishes, it was their own website! I think that even if I did order from another platform, I bet their customer service would have at least been courteous or given me some type of resolution. That being said, I will never order from Kojima sushi and I will tell everyone about my...
Read moreI come here for a quick bite at times, the place was ok, and my order was ok at best. I've only been here a handful of times, and it has been the same experience. The service is usually polite, although the last time I was there for lunch, I asked for my meal to be packed up when I was finished. I noticed there was no soy sauce or chopsticks. I asked for some and she gave me a single packet of soy, I asked for more and she abruptly said no and walked away. Seeing as they were on the counter I took 3 more, she saw me, quickly came over, reached in my bag grabbed them and loudly told me to leave. I told her I could pay her, but she wouldn't listen. In the end I left with 2 rolls of leftover sushi that I had to eat with my hands and no soy sauce. I would have taken my tip back but I paid debit. I hope the waitress was having a bad shift or something, and that this isn't the way she treats people regularly. Its an okay place though, decent sushi. I would still...
