We went here about a week ago (June 2023) and discovered the business was closed. There was a notice on the door that said they were closed for the week and they will be open for dinner on June 29. We had made the long drive as a group that day to eat there and were disappointed to find it was closed for the week but figured we would return on June 29 since a part of our group was in town until June 30.

We still wanted to try this place so we rescheduled as a group to meet there again at 5 pm on June 29. Part of our family from the island was in town and met us there. This was their last night in town and they had ventured with us to try this restaurant the week earlier. We were excited to try this place. It is of note that we also called the restaurant on the day of June 29 just to make sure it will be open. The voicemail said they will be open on June 29 for dinner at 5 pm just as the notice on the door a week earlier stated. We also checked their web site and there was no indications that the restaurant was closed or that they had taken time off for a family event.

However on June 29 there was now a new notice on the door that said they will be open for dinner on June 30. We had planned as a group twice to drive there and eat and were disappointed that we wasted our time and had planned our schedule around the details provided by the restaurant. Very poor communication to...

Was running errand in the area. We actually waited over 30 minutes for them to open, it was well worth it!

We got 3pcs snapper fish&chips! Good portion! The batter was crispy, fish was moist, perfectly seasoned! It was soooooo good, really hit the spot! Tartar sauce was light and refreshing, not heavy at all. I craved this again 3-4 times that same day, I’m still thinking about it today!

We also got the scallop, grilled, over rice, with garlic butter! Scallop was also perfectly cooked! Sweet and juicy! I enjoyed dipping the scallop in the butter and adding tartar sauce to the rice for the perfect bite!

Food was a little slow but we went right when they open so it was understandable. I appreciate that the chef take his time to prepare the food properly instead of rushing them out.

Service was friendly and casual, very warm and welcoming! We enjoyed our conversation with them and our time there. This was also the first time we took our puppy to a restaurant, we were glad it was a pleasant experience.

Their supplies came late that day and we couldn’t order what we originally wanted, but we would definitely be back for other dishes. What we ended up ordering turn out great though, so no complain there! But next time we want to try cod fish& chips, grilled calamari, and clam chowder. :)

We wish they have deep fried oysters too, I think it...

Food The food was amazing. We had cod and halibut fish and chips, fish cooked just right came with crispy chips. The tartar sauce and the lemon and carper sauce were very tasty.

Portion size The size of my portion was just right for me. The fish and chips can be ordered with one to three pieces of fish and the second and third pieces are at a reasonable price so one can order bigger portions.

Service Everyone was kind and professional, helping customers with a big smile and cordially.

Atmosphere The place was crowded and the energy was vibrant. Casual and friendly environment for families and a fun place to unwind on a Saturday night.

Note: It’s a small place so I would make a reservation if I had a party of 3+

Price It’s Vancouver, Canada, so prices are never low but the price is at the same range as other places in the neighbourhood or other high end neighbourhoods in the city.

Waiting time It took a while for our food to be ready which we didn’t mind at all. It’s a good sign when there are so many orders lined up! We had something to drink and had time to catch up with each other while eyeing all the beautiful dishes being served to the other tables.

Note: If one is in a hurry, then maybe choose a more relaxed time to try this restaurant.

I definitely recommend it and will go back to try many more items...

I absolutely love this place. This is the type of place you see in movies where the small local fish restaurant has one chef and two waitresses who know the local patrons by name and their usual orders. My favorite dish on the menu is their fish burger. If you’re a fan of blackened fish or focaccia bread this menu item is for you. I’ve had both the salmon and red snapper options and I’ve been impressed every time. The fish is always cooked to perfection and the focaccia bread *chef kiss* The fries are also always crispy and fresh which just competes the dish. Make sure to get some of their tarter sauce on side because it’s the perfect blend of creamy and tart. I will note that the typical wait time for your food to be served feels a bit longer than most restaurants but when you’re served amazing food, the wait time doesn’t matter. Order a drink and enjoy the company around you.

Fish Cafe was great! I'm from Toronto and my cousin mentioned BC has great seafood, it's fresh. We started with the grilled calamari with garlic butter which was a great combo. I had a Greek salad with 1pc fish and chips. He had the grilled salmon on rice. For dessert we tried their chocolate cake (they didn't have anymore carrot cake). It's understandable that some menu items wouldn't be available due to the freshness of the food so we didn't get a chance to try their crab cakes or clam chowder. I would highly recommend the fish and chips, the snapper was very light and battered perfectly. Overall I'm happy we visited and I would definitely go back if I visit BC again :)
