Came here for my dad's birthday last night. We shared seven different dishes between the six of us and it was more than enough food. Eggplant with tofu and scallops - 5/5 STARS: This was our favourite dish of the night. Tons of flavour and sauce. It came in a sizzling pot and the portion was good. Pea shoots - 5/5 STARS: Fresh, light and good portion. Sticky rice stuffed crispy chicken - 3/5 STARS: The dish was really creative and I liked the crispiness of the chicken skin. Unfortunately, the flavour fell flat. Green beans with conch - 3/5 STARS: Loved the sauce on this dish, unfortunately I'm just not a fan of conch! Sweet and sour pork - 4/5 STARS: Loved the crispiness of the pork! Beef ribs with glass noodles - 2/5 STARS: This was my least favourite dish of the night. The beef wasn't as tender as I would've liked and the dish lacked flavour. Appetizer platter - 3/5 STARS: It came with jellyfish, smoked salmon, pulled chicken and assorted veggie sticks. Overall, I thought the dish was only OK. The smoked salmon was something different than what is normally included in these types of appetizer platters. Service was average, took a lot of waving down to get wanted service.

Has Grand Honour always been in the basement? I feel like I was there decades ago but maybe I'm confusing it with another place. In any case, it's a bit dark down there and the menu is a bit limited as they don't offer rice rolls anymore. Tripe with XO sauce had food flavour and the chiu chow dumplings weren't bad. Chicken feet had a lot of pieces and fairly tender. Tried the appetizer platter. It was a bit of an odd mix. There was melons, carrots, cucumbers and salmon along with the shredded chicken. The salmon seemed out of place. Update Aug 2024: It's been about two years since our last visit to this underground restaurant. Ordered the fragrant steamed prawn and chive dumplings ($8.68), spicy spareribs in black bean sauce ($8.68), crispy pan fried bean curd roll with prawns ($9.98), and the chef's specialty appetizer platter ($26.80) which included chef salmon, chicken, jellyfish, carrots, cucumber, honeydew, and cantaloupe. The shredded chicken chow mein ($24.80) had perfectly crispy noodles.

Food quality is excellent. I had many dishes from Chinese restaurants in Vancouver, this one seems to be of the higher quality! The quantity served commensurate with prices and seem reasonable to me. The quality of the food deserve the higher prices too. It's very clear to my taste buds that the beef served here is of higher quality. The tofu dish probably doesn't deserve the same price as the beef as the tofu dish only has a little bit of shrimp crumbs even though the tofu was well prepared and tasted very good. Overall, if you dine here, $30 per person would be my guess. Free tea and free dessert at the end was a pleasant surprise to me. Parking was a bit of challenge to maneuver but it's free for patrons. Recommended to bring your guests to dine here. You won't be disappointed.

An update : Lunch - Visited again at lunchtime on a weekday. Lucky enough to grab a designated parking spot reserved for the restaurant customers. Ordered lot of dishes : Crispy Skin Chicken; Yang Chow Style Fried Rice (Shrimp & B.B.Q. Pork); Braised Yee-Mein With Seafood In Hot Pot; Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli; some veggies dishes like Beef w. String Beans, Stirred Fried Pea Shoots w. Garlic, dim sum dishes such as : Jumbo Prawn Dumplings; Steamed Beef Balls; Pork Shiu Mais With Fish Roe; Deep Fried Taro Spring Rolls; Steamed Barbecue Pork Buns, etc. For desserts, we had Fresh Grind Almond Sweet Soup; Mango Puddings, Purple Rice Sweet Soup. All the dishes were really great except that the String Beans dish was a bit salty & the Singapore Style Vermicelli was quite greasy. The Fresh Grind Almond Sweet Soup was very yummy, but would be perfect if it could be hotter. The Crispy Skin Chicken was so delicious - the skin was extremely crispy & the meat was very juicy. This was the best Crispy Skin Chicken I've ever tried in Vancouver (& even in Hong Kong that I can recall my memory)! Services were amazingly above and beyond, kudos to the Manager - Victor and his team. Dinner - Went there for a special dinner, service was exceptionally good and attentive. Food overall was tasty, not salty, not much MSG, non-greasy. I especially like their Grand Honour Empress Chicken; Fish Maw With Cream Corn Soup; Lobster E-fu Noodles in Superior Broth. For desserts, I liked their Fresh Grind Almond Sweet Soup, Baked Sago Custard Pudding. Restaurant environment was clean and bright. They have a few underground parking spots...

Servers are exceptionally rude and discourteous- not the first time but getting worse.

This visit was a large group for DimSum. Host and Server added extra dishes and billed for them.

I don't read Chinese and decided to review the ticked off choices of our dishes versus the Chinese printed copy of our order.

Tried to extra bill us 10 % by adding 2 dishes we did not tick off. $25

I think this is likely a BIG SCAM of taking advantage of people who are ordering DimSum and don't read Chinese or cross check their orders.

They basically tagged on 10%.

Really too bad Grand Honour is their name but they don't practice it.

So disappointed they were intentional about this practice.

Not the first time they've done this. We've accepted the mistake of an extra dish in the past, and paid.

And now realize it's very likely a regular practice.

So if you decide to go here- check your order.

They will try and say you ate it/ part of it and need to pay for it. They say they are too busy to keep track of what you ordered. However I believe it's the servers responsibility to print out what you ordered. (Especially if you don't read Chinese.)

Next time I go to a restaurant where I cannot read their printouts, I will cross check by counting the items I order. Especially in a large group, I will have to practice this now !

Very disappointed. Distrust in our City!

On another note: Did you know - when we TIP, the restaurant Owners get a cut. Less than half of the tips go to the workers in some places.

Some places- Tips are 100% go to the business owners. Especially places like Pizza Hut.

Check before your...

We come hear annually for a family dinner we had a 13 people reservation on a Sunday at 6 pm. We were seated promptly but that's all i couldn't say i was impressed about that evening. The staff were rude and untoward. It wasn't just one of them but everyone of them. When we requested 8 soups he said he would wait for the rest of the people to show. We told him that some of us did not want the soup but he was snippy with us and unhappy we didn't order one per person. The food did come hot and of average quality. There was one dish we ordered that didnt come even though we were at the end of our dinner. We asked one waiter and he said ok and walked off we waited another 15 mins and asked another waiter that just brushed us off and said it was coming. Another 15 mins go by and we are all sitting there waiting for this one dish. Since no one was doing their job and was ignoring our table we told the waiter we ordered with that we would like the bill and to cancelled that dish that hasn't showed. he said OK and another lady brought us the bill. When we looked at the bill the dish was not taken off despite him saying he will take care of it. Overall i think we will not come to this place again. They have extremely poor service but if you can suffer through that then the food is decent. Shark fin soup is about $22 for a...
