This facility, Jewish Community Centre, does not practice Humanity. Or else in my case, they did not. Not only did they not practice Humanity but I was totally ignored with no compassion or response whatsoever. Plainly, ignored. In April of this year ,2025, I came from Edmonton, where I live, to spend the last days with my Uncle in the Jewish Hospital Home across the street. I had been staying by his bedside making sure he was as comfortable as possible with the great help of the staff there. After 5 days, I needed a break and went for a walk noticing the Jewish Community Centre, expecting the same friendliness I got from the Jewish Home. I went inside to inquire and let them know about my circumstance. They told me I had to pay for a one month pass of about $130 to use the facility. So I thought even if I were there for another week maybe it would be worth it and that a workout and proper shower would feel so good at that moment. So I paid. The day after the next, my Uncle passed and I was not able to use the facility not even one more time. The morning he passed as we waited for the coroner to pick up my Uncle, I took my elderly aunt to have some soup there and told them about my Uncle, that maybe they would help me with a partial refund for using the facility only once. I was given an email to write to where I told them about what had happened along with a photo of me and my Uncle, my receipt and gym pass. The response was that they received my email and would respond shortly. I never got one. I sent 2 more emails in case they forgot about me and still to this day, no response. I’ve been told not to bother writing this review for it will change nothing. But I decided to speak up for others who have not so that more people will know how I was treated. To be honest, if the lady just responded as she said she would, even just to let me know my request had been denied and show compassion for my loss, I would have been ok. But to be ignored and not shown a practice in Humanity that this world is already lacking, my conscience would not let this go. To the guard who works at the door, I’m sorry you work for these...
Read moreExcellent resource, helpful staff, clean facility, reasonable spa, well stocked and clean gym, open concept facility with bountiful natural light. Lots of smiles to be had and gregarious conversations from the customer service skills of the staff members. Most members are fit, confident, happy and healthy.
The lobby itself is overwhelmed with Israeli flags, outnumbering Canadian flags by at least a 2:1 ratio, clear ideological saturation, a circumstance which may not make all persons feel comfortable or welcome.
The business charges $75 for a gym membership and $50 for a spa, yet somehow, the spa is not functional in any sense of offering towels or services aside from a partially functional steam room, a decent hot tub, nice shower facility and a small sauna.
A $125 a month price tag for a gym/"spa" which finds itself shutting down and closing at least 5 days a month for its chosen holidays or hosting private events, both of which result in barring it's members access to all its services.
Not to mention fairly disadvantageous operational hours, barely being open both Friday and Saturday, in effect, open approximately 70% of normal business hours.
The facility is great but it's ideological and functional stance leaves a lot to be desired.
Update: some of the personal trainers here are extremely qualified, in...
Read moreCame here for a NL recert. I've been a guard for 10 years and this is the first place where I've had to sign a waiver to take a course at, so that was strange. I also didn't like the paid parking but that was whatever. The pool itself was very unclean and dark, there were gnarly scum lines, black things floating, and brown rust looking stuff around all the pools. I've worked in the aquatic industry long enough to know when a pool's been cleaned properly and this was not it. Climbing out of one of the pools I cut my toe pretty bad from a sharp tile which was annoying. The hot tub sits behind the guard chair which concerned me, but I don't work there so I don't really care, just an observation. The guards themself were super kind and friendly and my instructor was super funny and was one of the better recert instructors that I've had. I'll probably only return to do a recert here if there isn't one offered at my pool, the guards and my instructor...
