MISLEADING AND SCAM prices! Heard on chinese radio and read on Chinese news paper last week that this restaurant had a $20 special for an entire signature Curry Crab. I went there with family to order it to find out that it costs $30. The male waiter at the time said there's no such ad and if there is, it would be the newspaper trying to give them some free advertisement. He did not honor the mistake at all. I checked the Chinese ming pao news paper again today (a week later) and the ad still sits there with the misleading $20 price for the crab. If they were sold out of crabs or such at the time the ad was posted, they can kindly tell us that on the day of ordering but since it's been over a week and the ad still remains on paper, then the only purpose is to mislead people or at least get them to drive there to be disappointed.

It's been a while since we were last at Haiyi Seafood. Most dim sum items were under $10 ($9.08) Ordered the ha gow, beef balls, bean curd wrappers in oyster sauce, Chinese donut rice roll, and pan fried radish cake. While I liked the sauce with the bean curd wrappers, they the pieces fell apart quite easily. Overall, most dim sum dishes were not too bad but not great either. The Chinese donut was only partly crunchy and the shrimp in the ha gow was quite small, as was the beef balls. We also ordered the Haiyi Special Vermicelli ($21.50) which had a nice caramelization to the noodles. We also got 12% off for dim sum.

I’m just a simple American white guy and this is authentic Chinese food I ordered the peppered steak with rice because I like simple Chinese food lol and they have everything on their menu. Things that I’ve never heard of or even thought of but that’s another story but I can tell you this I love spicy food, and this food is fantastic, I will absolutely come here and probably order the same dish cause I’m too afraid to venture out to something else but it is got so much flavor and the quality is unbelievable. I’m gonna bring my church group here. I’ll try to add a photo but I already started eating , but it is fantastic

4.2.25 Coming back after their reno Renovated interior. Some things have changed…

Service - new staff? Terrible (Head person) & staff -they all look new (not the same good previous staff it seems) They like to keep their heads and eyes looking forward with blinders on. They really dont want to see you ‘asking/waving for service’ - typical - bottom line, it was subpar. Just asking for them to attentive like: provide us a dimsum menu to check off - do I need to ‘red flag’ you to get your attention for this and then to order??

Food was ok - portions are definitely smaller. And SLOW. We ordered 6 dimsum items; each came out, one wt at a time, in 5-10 min intervals. Conveyor belts are faster. Taro was terrible. ‘60-70s Uk style of overcooking. humm.

Tea top up (hot water…) just as slow. Did I mention yet, the ‘blinders-on’-type service?

Bill time. Pony up… Yes, you have to waive to them for attention. However, this portion of the service WAS SUPER FASSST. PayMe is everything.

Will I come back?

I think not; until some other gineau pig proves/shows me improvement. There’s another goto hotspot down the street at 23rd.

Btw, dont sit by their front door (cold air)* Patrons leave the 2nd new glass door open and the man-in-black, with his greeting post right there, doesnt do ‘door closing’ duties. Not in his job description plus blinders-on.

fyi- watched from a distance as that table patron exercise ‘up n down’ to close that glass door while the ‘man-in-black’ yapped and stood around his post, trying to look busy. Was going to video...

Normally I don't write reviews and even if I don't have the best experience I just don't return but I must say the experience they provided was absolutely horrendous. Never have I ever seen a restaurant with staff that would lecture customers on how to make a reservation and how to reserve a dish for said reservation. Absolutely appalling in how they treated us. They could have easily been more humble and apologetic but instead chose to lecture us that we didn't do our due diligence to confirm pricing and reservation for a dish. Simply a restaurant that practices bait and switch tactics with their newspaper advertisement. They claim the price for a dish has gone up in price after 5-6 days and that anybody that booked and reserved would have gotten a call about the price update which I honestly don't believe but we will leave that aside. The lecturing is just the worst and usually I don't have high expectations for Chinese restaurants and most are pretty on par with each other but this one just takes the cake. Apparently, if you make a reservation with this restaurant they expect you as the customer to ask for the name of the person who is assisting with your booking. This is not industry practice that they claim is the norm. Customers shouldn't have to ask for the restaurant's staff name in expectation to make a complaint or to point out which staff "promised" a specific pricing on a dish that they advertised in the newspaper. Would recommend people to stay away from...

TIPS IS MANDATORY, TIPS IS MANDATORY

We had a very bad experience about the service in this restaurant. The staff who served us was trained poorly, he kept forgetting things after our request several times. In addition, we asked a disk of sauce many times was promised to bring it right away, so that we waited for that. But after 15 mins, we asked him again and he said they don't have that. Even worse that they forgot one main dish but still charge us in full. After we found out, they denied to take that out of the order, instead bring out the disk after we already finished.

Because of the above, I only give them 10% of tips. However, instead of taking that, the staff decided to embarrassed me in front of my guests by asking publicly that why did I only gave them 10%.

I think I was generous to give you 10% instead of 0 due to the poor service. I would think your restaurant was more professional if a manager came talk to me in private instead of asking directly in front of our guests by the same server.

So is tips mandatory now? Or the staffs only depend on tips with...
