I would NEVER EVER GO BACK to any of the Matchstick Cafes, RIP OFF!
I always drive by and wanted to check it out, finally on Wednesday Oct 25, 2017, around 7 pm we went to one of the Matchstick Cafes in Vancouver, BC. We ordered a cup of Green tea, Coffee and a Croissant , total came up to around $13.50. I was stunned! Croissant $6.00 - Regular size Green tea $4.76 - It came in a small tea pot with NO TEA LEAVES ( you are paying 5 dollars and still you have no control over the strength of your tea, go figure that out). They strained the tea leaves before serve it, that means you CAN'T go back with you tea leaves in the pot to add extra water, SNEAKY...cutting corners. Coffee was an average Coffee, nothing extra wow about it
When we were there, it wasn't busy still they took a good 7 mins to serve our tea in a small pot and the coffee in a mug.
There were only a handful of chairs by the long table and all of them were taken by the customers with a laptop. There were about 6 square shaped small benches, good for one person and three long benches....Neither one with a back support. (just in case if you need a back support).
I am 25yrs old and make around 68K, I have no problem spending money, but when someone try to rip you off by cutting corners, I never give my business to them. There are hundreds of Cafes in Vancouver with quality Pastries, Teas and Coffee too choose from.
Why on this earth anyone wants to pay $11.00 for a cup of tea and a Croissant.... RIP OFF.
I would NEVER EVER GO BACK to any of the Matchstick Cafes, RIP OFF! Here are my reasons: Tea $4.76 and still cutting corners with Tea leaves, no tea leaves in the pot, I can't control the strength of my tea. Pastries are ridiculously expensive $6.00 each - I have been having the the best pastries with great quality ingredients in town and still they are about $4.00 each. Seating arrangement is ridicules, well there are no seats to sit down.
I do not want to give any stars, but I have...
Read moreMy wife and I went to the Riley Park location last Sunday. We ordered our breakfast and my wife decided to pay with our MasterCard like usual. When the staff there was trying to process the bill, the machine froze and she told my wife that the transaction did not go through and she will need her card again to try it on the other machine. My wife provided the card again for them to process thinking that the 1st transaction didn't go through and even if it did, they would refund us automatically knowing they have double charged us.
On Monday, we checked our statement and sure thing, they double charged us. Knowing that this was a honest mistake and we took the initiative to call the coffee shop asking them nicely to refund one of the 2 charges on our credit card. The staff who answered the phone insisted that we have to go in person (we live in Surrey) in order for them to check their record and prove that they have double charged us before they will refund the money. This is really frustrating as this was their mistake to start with and they are making it so difficult for us to correct their mistake? I know for sure they can easily go back to the transaction that day and find out the double charge because all business do audit and close their bills at the end of the day to make sure what's sold and what's collected that day is BALANCED!
Yes, the food is nice here but the fact that we had to go into the restaurant in Vancouver all the way from where we live to "correct their mistake" is not acceptable and I would like to take this opportunity to warn those people who plan to go to Matchstick be prepared to jump hoops if same thing...
Read moreThe most bizarre café experience I’ve ever had. Barista must have been totally high or just plain rude. Came in and ordered a cappuccino, not busy, no one else in line. The male barista took my order. After I paid, he just stood there and stared vacantly into space for about four minutes. I wondered what’s happening? There was another female employee working, but she had gone into the back to do something. He continued to stare vacantly. Finally, he decided he would make my cappuccino. He started to brew the coffee, but then forgot about doing the milk! So my coffee just sat there while again he stared vacantly into space, and not heating up any milk for my cappuccino! After a good long, wait and lots of sneers an attitude from this male barista (something against seniors?) , I finally got my cappuccino! Luckily, just enough time to drink it before going to m appointment.. Management. Please take note!! This was a young male barista at 2 PM on a Thursday, September 12. This was going to be my new hang out because I just moved very close to here! Might give it another try still, but will wait for a more pleasant barista, who is a little bit more on the ball next time! Get some sleep or don’t come to work high, and have a...
