Where Flavours Fly but So Do the Flies
🌟🌟🌟☆☆ (3/5)
Let’s talk about this Korean fried chicken spot on Main Street, where flavours slap but service is, well, kinda like a Netflix show you start but never finish.
Walk-in Vibes:
You step in, and it’s all love, man. They greet you like you’re fam, but that’s where the connection ends. Tried to get some rice cakes on the side, but it was like explaining Bitcoin to my grandma.
We just weren’t vibing on the same wavelength.
The Main Event:
Aight, here comes the showstopper: the soy garlic chicken and rice. Like a Drake and Jay z collab — each bite is a verse that’s got you nodding your head, saying, “Damn, that’s deep.” It’s as if the chicken and the sauce are doing a perfect duet, and your tastebuds are front-row VIPs.
Honestly, it’s the culinary remix you didn’t know you needed, but now can’t live without.
The Party Foul:
There’s a hiccup in the playlist. Enter the fruit flies, rolled up like they’re part of your crew. One of these little dudes even had the nerve to land on my half-full Stanley Park Pilsner, like it was claiming dibs or something.
It’s like going to a concert and having someone tall stand right in front of you
— I didn’t sign up for this.
Check, Please:
Service was like that one friend who says they’ll help you move but goes MIA. Had to grab my own box and head to the counter to pay up.
Even gave them a little old-school hack about handling the fly situation, but all I got was a “sorry” and a screen asking for a tip.
The Final Take:
I get it. It’s summer, and fruit flies are just doing their seasonal tour, like food truck vendors or festival lineups.
But that doesn’t mean they should be VIP guests at my dinner table.
This spot’s got a chicken dish that’s basically a chart-topper, but they’ve got to get a handle on the little things — and I mean that literally.
So, would I go back? For sure, but maybe when it’s less of a bug’s paradise. Until then, I’m keeping my good vibes and my bug spray on standby. (Maybe...
Read moreThis is our first experience with Korean wings & fries. So to unpack this:
Atmosphere: The pub style premises were very clean. Very clean. The washrooms were perfecly clean. It is a nice setting, but you wouldn't go there for its "cool vibe" or anything like that. They have a lot of tables outside, which was nice. It is on Main Street so it can be a bit noisy, it's not looking over a park or anything so it is just a place to be outside. I gave it 4 on atmosphere because it was very good, but nothing remarkable about the venue other than it is comfortable and clean. You wouldn't go for the atmosphere, let's just say that.
Service: Our Server hit it out of the park. Friendly, attentive, not intrusive, and really sound advice about the menu.
If I was going to pick nits, I'd say that when she said something was a "little spicy" it wasn't spicy. But that is subjective.
Great service. A 5.
Food. We began with the Secret Fries. First, the fries. They were 💯 on their own. They were crispy, hot, not greasy. On their own, really nice. Second, they came with a sweet sauce and mayo on them. The sauces were nice too. Very tasty. I wouldn't have them like this every time, but I would order these from time to time. Really nice.
But third, and what is more, the presentation was beautiful. Well done!
We tried two types of wings: the Gangeong and the Galbi Q wings. We were told the Gangeong was spicy, but it was very mild. We didn't notice a difference with the Galbi or BBQd wings in heat level.
Both were piping hot and on point - 💯.
Great food. A 5.
It is a bit pricey, but I have no complaints. We got a lot of high quality food and an experience. So I feel we got value.
I would love to try the breaded wings next time. I would also likely try boneless next time.
I recommend...
Read moreOur Tuesday evening walk took us and Etch to the bbq Chicken & Pub on Main St. We had wanted to check out this Korean fried chicken spot since it opened. We were seated on the high tables outside. After reviewing the menu we knew we wanted to try their signature fried chicken. Golden Fried. We asked our server what else we should try. She suggested the secret sauce so we ordered that. We were hoping she would suggest some more but she seemed to think the order of chicken was enough. My suggestion for servers is to recommend anything you would eat if someone asks. I would have ordered it. From the drink menu we ordered the Signature Yakult Buzz and a double Pineapple Buzz. The drinks were a good size but I could not taste the Yakult or Pineapple. Nonetheless it was refreshing. It took about 20 minutes for the fried chicken to get to our table. The fried chicken was crispy and the meat juicy. My only complaint was that there was an aftertaste of one of the ingredients. My partner thought it was cheese but I was thinking paprika and buttermilk gone bad. The secret sauce and pickled radishes were good. Would I come back? I would not rush back but next time I will try something else...
