You don't come here for the great atmosphere or fantastic service, but for the homey delicious food. I first came here maybe two months ago. Always a frequent flyer of the area and have always wanted to try this 'hole in the wall' but never really did. Though I did, and it was glorious! I brought my significant other here and first thing she said was "Really? Let's go eat Vietnamese on Victoria Dr instead". But we stuck to the plan and we both ate happy and left with a full belly. We ordered a grilled chicken vermicelli bowl, a dry Cambodian seafood noodle bowl and a house special banh mi. THE BEST dry Cambodian seafood bowl I've had in my life, even better tasting than Phnom Peng's! The noodles were flavourful and full of toppings such as prawns, liver, and soft squid! It came with a bowl of hot broth which was nice to drizzle over the noodles to loosen them up. The vermicelli chicken bowl came with a log of spring roll which was hot and crunchy. The house special banh mi was scrumptious - bread fluffy and crispy, fillings were FILLING. If you're thinking of eating Vietnamese and thinking of visiting Little Saigon on Victoria Drive please reconsider and visit this little restaurant run by a crew of all ladies! By the time we left the restaurant was packed!

I eat here 2-4 days a week no joke! I’ve tried alot of vietnamese restaurants in the city and Bon Cafe is my favourites. Ran by a very kind family who put effort into every single meal. The atmosphere isn’t too important when the food is this solid The menu is quite large so let me guide you through some of my favourites: Their Phở is really really nice, the broth is very tasty due to them taking no shortcuts with MSG and only using beef bones. The Lemongrass chicken vermicelli + spring roll is top tier as well, super refreshing on a hot day The Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang (Cambodian Seafood Gumbo, Soup version) was pleasant. If you are a little adventurous and can eat seafood I would give this a try The Spicy Huế Beef Soup is my favourite out of all the dishes they have to offer. Extremely flavourful spicy beef based broth with tons of toppings. Worth trying if you’re wanting to try something other than Phở Update: Just tried the Hủ Tiếu Bò Kho (Beef Stew Noodle Soup) and it has taken the spot as my favourite meal to order at Bon Cafe!! Hearty and warm beef stew perfect for a rainy day

Pho on a rainy day is great, but too bad our experience wasn’t good at this small restaurant. First, we were told to wait a minute, so we thought the server was going to set up a high chair at one of the available seating areas. Not so. So we seated ourselves. The restaurant is so small and tight that tables need to be shared (we eventually thought, after waiting a while, as no one communicated this to us). It’s a strange setup of tables: about 3 tables for couples along one wall and 4 tables for 8 along the other wall with only a couple of feet as a walkway. The air flow is not good because it smelled musty when we entered. And the soups, which tasted overall decent, took so long in coming. Take-out orders take priority. A take-out order put in after our in-restaurant one came out ahead of ours! I hope this was just an off-day for them.

The service was very minimum, they gave me a cup of tea, took my order, served me a bowl of soup, that’s all. Never came back to my table asking if everything was ok, or refilling my tea. No greetings when I got in, never said thank you. BUT they charged me 15% of service fee after tax. I’ve never seen or heard any restaurants doing that except high-end hotel restaurant. I was shocked. Pho noodle was chopped in half inch, not even single noodle was in their legit length. Felt like I was eating someone’s leftover. I told the server the issue but she just said “I will make sure with the kitchen” and of course no apologies. They forced me paying more than 15% for this mess. They really should understand what kind of service is worth it for 15%. Tip is supposed to be based on their service and the amount of tip is what the customer decides. So....
