Ebisu (and their sister Kamei restaurants) has been around Vancouver for quite some time and this particular location, despite being tucked away from the bustling Broadway corridor, is still quite busy. The interior is fairly large but the tables are arranged in a cozy layout and the windows along West 8th gives you a nice view of the north shore mountain range. We started our meal with a Virgin Mango and a Virgin Lychee drink ($3.99 each). Both drinks were very good and refreshing with real fruit flavours. For our meal, we decided on the Royale Boat Dinner ($27.99 per person) which is a bit of a nod to their Kamei Royale past. The meal starts with Dobin Mushi which is a traditional seafood broth served in a dobin teapot. The broth is simply amazing! They also bring out a refreshing starter of Ebi Sunomono which has vermicelli and sweet shrimp swimming in a light vinegar broth. Next up was our sushi boat (literally… a boat of sushi). On a side note, I remember years ago when the big thing in Vancouver was to have sushi restaurants with a “conveyor belt” of sushi boats which floated around the restaurant so diners could just pick up the sushi dishes as they passed their tables. But I digress… the tuna and salmon sashimi here were quite good and had a firm yet buttery texture. The only thing about this sushi boat that I found a bit basic was the California roll – the Unagi, Chopped Scallop, Salmon, and Tobiko nigiri items were on point. Lastly, our next boat course consisted of Takoyaki (octopus balls), Prawn & Veggie Tempura, Oyster Motoyaki, and Chicken Teriyaki served on a bed of cabbage. I love that they still serve motoyaki in the shell – it was quite good with the baked oyster covered in a creamy sauce and lying on a mix of spinach and onions underneath. We returned a couple of months later during lunch. Due to their location, this is a fairly busy place during the lunch hour so we were lucky to grab a table. Their lunch specials are $12.99 and you get to pick 3 items plus miso soup. First up was the combination of Chicken Karaage, Sashimi Salad, and Wild Salmon Sashimi. I thought the karaage had a bit too much batter but the wild sashimi was really good. Next up was the BC Blazer roll which is essentially a California roll topped with salmon. The Beef Teriyaki turned out to be a fairly generous size for a lunch special dish. And lastly, the Prawn and Veggie Tempura. Overall, the food at Ebisu is actually quite good and centrally located if you’re around the Broadway corridor. UPDATE - September 2025: It's been about six years since we were last here (back when they were known as Ebisu - but looks like they went back to the old Kamei moniker). One of the real old school Japanese restaurants in town and still going strong hidden in the back of Broadway Plaza. Had the Oyster Motoyaki ($11) - creamy with spinach and onions, Spinach Gomaae ($7), Tiger Ebi Mayo ($16) - thick and meaty prawns, Sashimi Vancouver ($28) - fresh Atlantic and Wild Salmon, Albacore, and Hamachi, Negitoro Maki ($5.5), Brandy Beef Short Ribs ($24) - thick-cut and set aflame at the table with veggies and onions.

Went to Ebisu for lunch with a friend and it had been awhile since I've visited this restaurant. The lunch menu was pretty simple, one side of the menu were Bentos that ranged from $16-$18 and the other side was 3 combination meal that was $16 (or each dish is $6). I decided to go with the 3 combination: Yam roll, salmon sashimi & chicken teriyaki. The yam roll was nice, it wasn't overcooked and still had a slight firmness to it, which I prefer. The salmon was nice and fresh and I did enjoy the presentation. The chicken teriyaki had a nice crispy skin, the meat was moist and had the perfect amount of teriyaki sauce. The service was friendly and we didn't wait long for our food, however we did arrive a few minutes after 12 and did notice a few people coming in shortly after us, so it could get busier around 1 or so. It's a perfect spot for a sit down lunch if you have an hour break. 2024/03/21 Went to Kamei on Broadway, formally known as Ebisu, this afternoon for lunch. We didn't have to wait for a seat and usually during this time, everyone is seated in the same area, as if the rest of the restaurant is off limits during lunch hours. The menu is typically the same as it was when it was Ebisu, but the prices have definitely skyrocketed from the last time I was there. Normally bentos during lunch are $9-$12, but these bentos ranged from $17.95-$19.95. Food was good and the service was fast. Just wished they wouldn't have to charge to sub out the California roll, because not everyone is a fan of fake crab, like my friend who I went to lunch with, who just wanted an avocado roll, which is essentially a Cali roll without the crab, but got charged $2-$3 for that. Other than that, it's a decent place to eat if you want to pay a lot.

it's okay, and i don't feel scammed, but i won't be back wanted the happy hour oysters but they weren't in stock so only got the magic chirashi set let's just go over the different fish: red prawn and scallop: standard quality, it isn't impressive but nothing disappointing either sea urchin: bitter and badly cleaned (with a shell piece). they're not unfresh but it's simply a quality difference, my best guess would be chilean sea urchin but it could also be low grade japanese salmon roe: on the small side, wouldn't be surprised if it was from chum salmon but pretty standard anyway bluefin tuna: lean meat (akami) is on the bloody side, this is a positive for me but could be a negative for others chutoro: flavor is a little washed out (probably from defrosting) but the fat content and texture are pretty solid sea bream: almost zero flavor, the skin seemed to have been torched to bring it out but if they go back to being stored after it just makes the skin bitter yellowtail: above average, not very bloody compared to most pieces eel: not the usual premade chinese frozen one, very surprisingly good crab: extremely watery and tasteless, almost stinky, this is better left uneaten, it does appear to be actual japanese snow crab but i would have preferred native north american snow crab to this always, a far cry from good quality japanese snow crab two types of salmon: i didn't eat these but my partner said they were good overall the value is acceptable and there are definitely some standouts, if you can accept it as a 6 bowl set rather than a 7 bowl set i think it's alright also they use yamasa soy sauce which has bitter notes, i personally don't prefer this

We had our father's day dinner at Ebisu Broadway location. The food was alright but the service was unacceptable because one of the staff lied to us and tried to cheat our money.

We had ordered the Royale Boat Dinner combo and the Battera Aburi sushi in which both of them were late. We first checked with a waiter first and he said the sushi bar was very busy.

Afterward, a waitress who had placed our order came to our table and told us that she had forgotten to enter the order for the Battera Aburi sushi. She asked us whether we still want to keep the order and we told her that we would pass if she didn't place the order. We then checked with her to see whether we had paid for that already as one of our family members had left early and paid for the bill. She replied that the Battera Aburi Sushi wasn't on the bill that we paid.

A moment after she left, another waiter brought the Battera Aburi sushi to our table. We were so confused because she told us that she didn't place the order. We checked with the waiter and he said that we did in fact ordered the Battera Aburi sushi. So we double-checked with the waitress and asked to see a copy of the receipt. Surely enough we found out that the Battera Aburi Sushi was on the receipt and the person who left already has paid for it!!!

We were very displeased with that staff’s honesty; We checked with her and she confirmed with us that the Aburi sushi wasn't on the bill that we paid.

She had literately lied to us. If we left after she confirmed with us then we would have paid that $16 and getting no sushi

tl:dr The staff was dishonest. We waited for our Aburi sushi for a long time. We checked with the staff and the staff said she forgot to place the Aburi sushi order and it wasn't on our bill (It was on the bill) but the Aburi sushi arrived after 30sec and it was on the bill that we...
