Kokomonk in Kitsilano is a true hidden gem, blending creativity, and warmth into every cup of hot chocolate. Their tomato and rose-flavored white hot chocolate, whimsically named “A Non-Conformist’s Plea for an Imaginary Summer” is NOT. TO. BE. MISSED. It’s unexpected, it’s divine — a bold, floral, and savory-sweet-confusing-exciting combination that feels like sipping a daydream. Tomato in a hot chocolate? Sounds odd, but trust me, it works. The balance is pure magic. Now, here’s the heartbreak: they’re talking about taking it off the menu. If that happens, I might cry actual koko tears. This drink is an underrated masterpiece, and it deserves a spotlight not just in Kitsilano but across all of Vancouver. So if you’re in the area, grab a cup before it’s gone. Trust me, you’ll want to be part of the magic — because flavours like this don’t come around every day. Save the Non-Conformist! P.S. bring a friend and go on a Saturday so you can explore 3x flavours with a flight.

This place is an absolute jewel! The chocolate is amazing, but there are many places with good chocolate. What makes this place special is the excellent choice of flavors for each of the different options in the menu. Each hot (or cold) chocolate seems to have a theme, that is built up with a choice of spices that hit your palate at different moments of each sip, resulting in an amazing experience, very different for each option of the menu. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, I highly recommend asking any questions that you might have, or for suggestions in case you are having a hard time deciding what to have. Notice that only on Saturday you can have the Hot Chocolate Flight, this is three choices of hot chocolate from the menu, for two people (10 CAD per person), but both will have the same three options. The total volume of the three is equal to one of the regular ones. Amazing place, it is not cheap, but absolutely worthwhile.

Koko Monk hot chocolates are what dreams are made of. Paul (the owner and chocolatier) makes a science of out perfectly balancing the flavours in his creations to leave you surprised, sated, and inspired. These chocolates and hot cocoas are not run of the mill, Paul experiments with flavours not normally associated with chocolate (watermelon, tomato, pepper) as well as serving up delicious versions of the usual dark, milk, and white chocolates. He is also always friendly and courteous, and full of information about chocolate and flavour science. Definitely come here during the hot chocolate festival (Jan/Feb) when there are 4 new hot drinks to try, but Koko Monk is good at any time of year. On Saturdays you can buy flights of hot chocolate (there are 14 to choose from), which would be a great date for the chocolate lover in your life.

Dear Owner: I understand your feelings but for a bussines it requires also a good PR and comunity manager for comunication to clients on behalf your Brand. Your reply only confirme what I was sayin and makes me think you didnt pay atention and read my review, worth sayingnis not intended to damage bur to encourage a better performance since customers are paying for your products and service, so: The day we went there were 3 people 1 lady, and old man and a young man only the last one was nice and fast but service is cold and slow. I get the portion of gelato (1regular spoon portion) flavor exotic, interesting taste like guanabana but for me not so good to the h. chocolate since you couldnt taste the species on in until the end...I ordered a cockie apart the 2 chocolates we had. What I said is that only on especific days you get to try the special of the festival and that is took excitement from "festival thing" No one explaint us the beberage not even offered any of the festival, didnt invitw us to return to try other flavors, did not explain what was on the beberage or gelato like other places in festival did (we went to 4 others) and they offered bigger versions. For dine in there is few tables and a bar but is small so the noise does not allow to have a convo so a rather small portion of hot choco for the price of a top restaurant without the experience of a good ambience 😕 yeah you have chocolates, and some other good products but to me the service and the reduced options of bakery was disapointing.

Wish you the best and hopping you get to improve little details. Iam a female name is Maty and went with friends, Im enjoying Vancouver Regards

ambient is not comfy, service slow and cold just 1 person of staf was kinda nice. They dont offer a good variety of chocolate and I think they could use some bakery or sides for the drinks. I had the specisl of the hot chocolate festival and it was ok. They dont explaing or offer the special drinks like other places do. Prices high for what you get. cookie was raw in the midle super hard on the edges â˜č...

I visited Koko Monk at the other location but this one on West Broadway was new to me and I was happy that I visited it and tried their hot chocolate flight last Saturday.

Originally I was thirty and wanted to drink something but my husband told me their menu showed a “hot chocolate flight” and it would be served on Saturday only. Of course I would try it!

We ordered at the cashier and got a table. A lot of customers ordered chocolates, sweets and hot chocolate from the store. Indeed the store was short staff for the weekend (that’s what I felt). Only one server at a cashier and one made hot chocolate or served at the back. One more person worked inside the kitchen who did not even serve customers at all. On a weekend
. Customers just waited in line to order, pay and pick up the food. The pace was quite slow. I hope they would add more staff at least for weekends.

The hot chocolate flight (minimum 2 orders) had three small glasses but after drinking all three, I felt I drank one big cup of hot chocolate. They were quite filling but they were not too sweet. One had ginger flavour in it. One was a special hot chocolate. One had a bit of wine or vodka in it but after mixing the alcohol with hot chocolate, It tasted very unique. I was very satisfied to taste three different flavours all at once.

I also had a small butter tart. It went well with the hot chocolate.

Hot chocolate festival was still running last weekend when I was at Koko Monk. I saw people ordered the special hot chocolate from the hot chocolate festival. I would love to try them but February 14 was the last day.

I would recommend others to have hot chocolate here other than visiting...

Heard the older man working there who I believe to be the owner berating the younger employee. It was very uncomfortable. Left a review for the wrong Koko Monk location at first, which is why the original review was deleted as this occurred at the West Broadway location and not the 1st Ave.

EDIT: The original review stated that the service was bizarre and unfriendly. The owner replied stating that I was entitled/demanding. I stand by the original review and don’t understand the response, as I had not visited Koko Monk the day I had left the review. Furthermore, I had only purchased chocolates and left promptly afterwards. The exchange was quick as I did not feel comfortable remaining in the shop, and I’m not sure how me picking out a box of chocolates could be perceived as “entitled and demanding”. Perhaps he was confusing me with another customer. I have not been back to Koko Monk since and never will.

I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews and almost never do. However I would not recommend this...
