Hungry and tired from a long fun-filled day, we randomly stumbled upon this restaurant walking along Kitsilano. We were both feeling rice that day, and seeing the pictures outside we walked-in without expecting much, little did I know that it was going to turn out to be one of my favourite spots during my trip to Vancouver!
The place transported me to the time I used to live in Asia, reminded me of one of those small family restaurants, you know the kind that has been existing in the street corner for ages run by an old couple. The staff were quite welcoming and greeted us like we were family coming to visit after years.
Everything on the menu looked so good and were decently priced that we had trouble deciding on what to get. Eventually we settled on Chicken Pad Thai, Yellow Shrimp Curry with rice, and some chicken satay skewers (unfortunately we were too hungry and couldn’t picture all of them).
It was made to order right in front of us, and brought out exceptionally quick. The portion sizes of the main dishes were way bigger than I expected. The noodles of the Pad Thai were cooked perfectly, and the curry was flavourful without skimping out on the fish. There was a good range of spice levels. Although we went for mild since neither of us could handle spice very well, the food was still extremely flavourful. While the satay skewers were a tad bit smaller than I’m used to, they tasted really good!
The inviting atmosphere, clean dining experience, coupled with the music that was just at the right volume without being too overbearing bred some deep conversations; we didn’t realize how quickly time had passed. And once we realized that we’d been staying there past closing we apologized, but the staff were too kind and asked us to take our time and assured that we need not rush. I cannot thank them enough.
I’ll be reminiscing my experience fondly after returning to Halifax; will definitely be back here the next time I’m...
Read moreRice and disrespectful is what the place should be called! I’m not reviewing anything food related because I wouldn’t trust eating anything there after the engagement with the owner.
The way they treat the neighbours is with a lot of blatant disrespect during and after the construction. They gave exhaust poisoning to one of them. Blew it off like it wasn’t big deal.
I am on of the people who live in the building and the have zero regard for anyone else. It has caused my family friends and other neighbours such disrespect and displacement the landlord is passive aggressive about the whole situation and will not do anything.
If the have little to no respect for the people around them that their product service or anything they do has any sort of good intent. Even when asking them to turn down the volume of music or move a speaker to stop bass shaking the upstairs they play I don’t speak good English. I would avoid this place the way people around them will reflect in their business.
With everything that they put my family through and their manner of in which they have don’t not support this business. They don’t support the...
Read moreThe menu is your typical pan-Asian fast food, elevated by their claim to a more health-conscious approach. I had a question about whether or not the item I wanted was vegetarian since I didn't see any animal ingredients in the description but it was missing the vegan icon, and the staff was able to tell me what was in it. I had the Mongolian Stir Fry with tofu and I actually thought it was pretty good. The sauce was flavourful and not syrupy or super oily, there was a good amount of freshly cooked veggies and tofu. I think it strikes a great middle ground between being a wholesome healthy meal and delivering the flavours and satisfaction of classic Chinese-American food. The portion size was perfect for me, but if you want more food for cheaper (and maybe of the same quality depending on where you go), you're better off going to a proper Chinese or Thai restaurant. My dish was about $14 after tax. Although the food is nothing fancy here, I like their approach, so it's a place I'd consider...
