I want to give it 3.5 stars. It was a rainy day when I first visited there based on many positive previous reviews. As I entered the store, their counter with a wide assortment of sweet and savory pastries drew my attention once, so did the bright headbands worn by their staff. A slice of cake costs more there than other regular bakeries though, I noticed their portion is normal to big, so the price is in a reasonable range. I ordered an almond croissant and a holiday special drink. Both of them are okay, but not stunning. The croissant comes with a lot of sliced almonds both on the top and inside as fillings. After a few bites, I could taste the richness of integrated almonds with chocolate custard or syrup. The hint of disappointment lies in its chewy texture or the lack of freshness. As mentioned in previous comments, the croissant was soggy and not flaky, which influenced its flavor texture. I made great effort to cut it by knife, and eventually decided to eat with hands. Additionally, most patrons have a big chance to sit by a dirty table since their stuff, friendly and nice though, seldom clean the tables. They have time limit for using wifi (2 or 2.5 hours). If you'd like to spend a relaxing afternoon by yourself or with friends, you can visit this store and selectively order fresh cakes and pastries. If you just wanna stay in a clean and quiet cafe to get your work done, you can try somewhere...

This place is highly overrated. First of all, I went on the second day it opened and the inside was SO dirty. I couldn’t even enjoy my breakfast because the floors were disgusting and the tables were sticky. I watched one of the staff “wipe” the tables and she basically did one swipe with the wet cloth and walked away. As for the baked goods...well the peach and rosemary tart was good but small for the price. The almond croissant was decently priced but wasn’t good. It had a lot of the almond filling but the croissant was soggy and not flaky and buttery. The coffee was absolutely horrible. First of all, no pricing on the menu (for the coffee) so it was a surprise when it all came to $19 something. Neither the latte or mocha had any coffee taste. It was just like drinking warm milk. I was surprise by the price because Thomas Haas down the street is much better quality and actually cheaper. This place does have a lot of nice options for baked goods but I’m not coming back again to try the others. There are other bakeries that provide a much nicer...

It saddens me to give purebreads new location a 3 -star. It's not the pastry but the service. Maybe it's just a bad day but I could not believe how many mistakes the server made. I ordered the potato spinach quiche but she gave me the bacon cheese bread bake. I said I was gonna hold and think about whether to get the whole loaf. And she charged and packed it for me. When I saw the 40 dollar bill, I should have asked how but I thought maybe my own calculation was wrong. Until I saw the addition of the whole loaf brought out to my table. I felt bad because she'd already packed the loaf and warmed up the wrong pastry so I didn't return them. But felt really bad nonetheless. I loved the Gastown location and they never made one mistake in service even when they were super busy. It was not busy at all and all this!? It's unacceptable. While I was there, she kept making other mistakes serving other customers. Is it a training thing...

We have had Purebread for 10 years but just their sweet offerings. Boy have we been missing out. Tried their bread for the first time. Called to put a loaf aside-bought the Old Stumpie Rye. I could smell the coffee on the crust! I wonder if they brush coffee on the outside before baking? I never thought I'd say this about bread, but it was very complex. I could smell the coffee on the loaf, then when I cut it I could smell the honey and a deeper sweetness (the molasses), and the yeast and rye. I could see all the seeds inside and taste them all. This was the most flavourful of breads I've had in a long time. It was so delicious, we will definitely try their other loaves. Sorry we took so long, bakers. This is one beautiful and tasty loaf. My tastebuds thank you.
