I pass by ALL the time on my way to other nearby breweries that I frequent but I decided to duck in today and finally try it. It looks super unassuming from the front with it’s humble signage. There’s no front parking due to being on busy Venables but you can park in the small streets in the back, and there is a small walkway to get to the front.
There’s a small front tasting bar area but I opted for their indoor dining area instead. There’s also a fenced in outdoor area with umbrellas but it was too cold today for that! Apparently SOURS are their best but I’m still easing into sours so I ended up ordering their Whale of a West Coast Pale Ale (hazy IPA) with bold tropical notes but was really torn between that and their other hazy IPA the Heron After Cold IPA so I’ll need to come back and try that. I liked that they explicitly offer two pours if you ask - either slow or fast depending on the amount of foam you like. This isn’t really something I’ve seen explicitly noted at other breweries so I thought that was pretty neat! Half the beer menu were lagers/pilsners while the other half were IPA. They also had wine and Italian sodas.
Another noticeable feature was that Luppolo offers negroni on tap. I have never seen this offered anywhere before so I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try the Classico and I wasn’t disappointed! Negroni on tap was a smidge more on the sweeter side (but not sweet) with orange essence and a dried orange slice instead of the typical orange peel.
The big standout was actually the pizza surprisingly! When I stopped in I was only expecting to grab drinks but was swayed at their pizza menu (they offer BURRATA on their pizza, my decadent fave!!! Although I didn’t order burrata on my pizza this time, I will definitely need to come back for it) and after reading that Mordimi is their in-house pizzeria, I couldn’t refuse. I ended up ordering funghi (blanco) with added chicken (+$3.50) and quatro formaggio (rossa) and added prosciutto ($3.50) that is added after the pizza is cooked and not crisped in oven….. Personally I think they should offer the choice. The pizza style is a hybrid of Neopolitan and Roman style pizza - light crunchy outside and soft inside. Verdict? I’m a big fan!! I have a few favourite pizza places that I regularly visit and very rarely deviate from and I think Luppolo is going to make it onto my list of rotation and that’s rare because I rarely change my list.

Read moreI LOVE this place! Also I have a few things to say to Jared Larsen who commented about the art on the walls; Hello, as the painter of the "Tale of the rock" hanging currently at Luppolo, I apologize if I have offended anyone. The series of work I made on this land, my home, are called "Search for a better world" and are meant to question the civilization that we have created over time. I feel that we are all one and connected to each other, the women in the painting symbolizes everyone including me and an indigenous sister who has a Hudson's Bay blanket on, whom I feel connected to as I live here now with her, and yes maybe she is westernized as we all seem to be these days... She does sit longingly and sorrowfully on a rock full of things -in details there can be seen machines and waste- which symbolizes our current industrialized nature, thinking about what has been done to the nature we came from. The hummingbird and the flower are there as symbols for hope. There is no cultural appropriation in style in my art though there is awareness, connection and empathy. This is what I was thinking. Thank you for reading.

Updated: Jared, I am not an expert in 70s North American television as I did not grow up here. Therefore I am certain that I am not making a reference to it. I will see if I can find the video. I am mortified that my work could be considered racist. I look forward to re examining the validity of this image, and welcome discourse about entitlement. I grew up as a minority female in a muslim country. I will take my time to research...
Read moreA great experience with delicious food, unique beers, and excellent service!
My friend and I went here for Dine Out 2024 and the menu was a great representation of the food on offer here. Although the brewery technically doesn't serve food, they collaborate with Local Pizzaiolo to provide an assortment of Italian dishes.
We ordered the Polpette (braised meatballs in tomato sauce), a Diavola Pizza, a Shrooms Pizza, a Panna Cotta, and a Tiramisu for food, and a selection of beers for drinks. All items were delicious and very filling, with awesome flavours! We also got some pizza dips. I am absolutely in love with the Calabrian Chilli sauce and it was a huge disappointment to learn that it is not available to purchase in bulk.
Service was lovely and all the staff were pleasant and respectful. Our food arrived quickly and they were attentive to our concerns and were willing to answer questions.
Ambiance is nice, with a homely feel even though the restaurant is located in an industrial area and the place is also a brewery. There were many paintings on the walls as well!
Overall, I highly recommend this place and will be coming back for...
