The waitress asked us to sit at a table by the wall but we asked for a bigger one by the window because the one by the wall was too close to the other tables. She told us the table by the window was for four people so we took the table by the wall. Then she asked us if the table behind that table was okay. We did not know why she was indecisive.
My sister tried to order hot coffee milk tea and the waitress said they could not make it hot while they were able to give us hot tea. So my sis told her she would have it cold without sugar, then she said, "Without sugar? How smart?" Who would speak that way to customers? She gave customers attitude. Also, It did not make sense that they were unable to make hot drinks (hot drinks only require hot water). They just wanted to charge us more (cold drinks cost more).
I inquired about the daily soup and I said no after she told me what it was. Then she came back later and said, "You don't want it even if it's free?" If it was really free then she should have let me know when I asked her about the soup.
In terms of food, the rice that accompanied the meat was cold. That was unacceptable. The BBQ pork was sliced too thin. The sand ginger chicken was tasteless and consisted of mostly bones and skin. They put the ginger and onion sauce and another kind of sauce on the side which were unnecessary if the chicken itself was flavourful. Also, they only put a piece of broccoli on the plate and it was uncooked. This was odd because the vegetables on the plate are commonly choy sum or gai lan. In addition, the free tea was nasty and the cold coffee milk tea tasted fake (no coffee taste). Furthermore, the waitress gave us a wrapped paper straw instead of inserting the straw in the drink for us. The drink was for dine-in. That just means she did not want to serve.
Moreover, I told the waitress to change to two items with rice from three items with rice after she told me they did not have ribs but she did not made that change on the receipt so I needed to speak with the manager. He made the change on the receipt but we realized that they charged us $2 more for BBQ duck and they did not indicate that clearly on the menu (they just scribbled the Chinese words using a felt pen which was difficult to read). Some people might not be able to read Chinese. They should inform the customers of anything that costs extra.
The quality of the BBQ meat from supermarkets is better...
Read moreCantonese BBQ Seafood opened up in the former Peaceful location on Kingsway. The little mini mall has a busy parking lot but you can usually find street parking (both free and paid).
We've been here a few times to grab a quick bbq lunch combo. But we finally visited for dine-in recently. In addition to their bbq service, they have a full Chinese seafood menu offering.
We ordered the 3 item bbq combo (you pick and choose which bbq items you want but we opted for the roast pork, bbq, and soya sauce chicken). While the bbq price is higher than the lunch combos, you get more meat. Not a bad price when you consider how much the price of bbq duck has gone up lately. The duck was good... meaty and juicy. Roast pork has nice crispy skin. A welcome addition to the area for bbq.
Pea tips were good too. And I like that we received complimentary soup to start and green bean soup for dessert.
Really want to come back here and try some of their seafood combos.
Update: We did return in October to try a dinner combo with a 2lb lobster sticky rice with 2 bbq items plus 1 other dish for $118 (we picked the sole fillets with veggies). We also added the Taiwanese cauliflower with lap cheung and bacon. Again, you get complimentary soup and dessert. Bbq items were as good as before.
UPDATE July 2024: After a recent dine-in visit, we noticed a special that they were advertising on their wall... a lobster sticky rice combo for $118.80! First off, complimentary soup. And it's actually good soup. Nothing fancy but tender meat and something you would get with home cooking. The combo included 2 BBQ items of your choice (we picked roast pork and bbq duck). Good bbq, nice crispy skin and lots of meat. The lobster was pretty big and had meaty pieces that were easy to extricate. Sticky rice was flavorful and not dry. For our extra dish, we got eggplant and scallop with egg tofu in a dreamy sauce. And we also had a sweet red bean dessert included....
Read moreAmazing new Chinese BBQ restaurant. I came to dine-in with my family and got their 5 signature dishes menu which included: House Special BBQ Platter (Roast Pork, BBQ Duck, Char Siu and Soy Sauce Chicken) White Pepper Pork Tripe Soup Lobster with Sticky Rice Baked Codfish in Yuzu Mustard Sauce Baked Beef Rib
Their BBQ is all done very authentically. Roast pork is super crispy with a good mix of fat and meat. The skin on the BBQ duck is crisp and flavourful as well. If you've had their BBQ meat from the same restaurant in Richmond then you will know what to expect here, very high quality and delicious meats.
Being a Chinese seafood restaurant as well, you can expect to order your traditional Chinese cuisine from here. What they also have sprinkled in are some slight fusion dishes that you will not find commonly elsewhere such as the baked codfish with yuzu mustard sauce and the baked beef rib. Their seafood is very fresh (both the lobster and codfish) and the beef rib is so amazingly tender. Definitely would recommend both those dishes.
Overall very happy a new BBQ restaurant of this quality opened up in the neighbourhood. Service is very fast and friendly as well. Even though it's their first days of opening, they already have line-ups for take-out BBQ. Will definitely come back more often and recommend this place to all who are in the area to...
