I know it’s only day two of opening but I did have high expectations from this place because I’ve had Chef Ben’s private dining and Lunch Lady, which I’ve always enjoyed. But this place is more suited to go either after you’ve had dinner, or before dinner; a grab some drinks and maybe have some light snacks kind of experience. My friend and I were sat by the window with the high chairs. It was honestly uncomfortable with such a small table and it was so close to the front door. Could barely hear each other talk without yelling really loudly. Also the table… with two small dishes and two drinks, there was no more room. Like impossible to put a 3rd anything so I guess the point is made that this place is more for just drinks.

We ordered 3 dishes: Bigeye Tuna, Steak Tartare, and Hen of the Woods

Bigeye Tuna $18 was the highlight, very delicious and would order again. Suggestion to maybe cut the tortilla into 4 pieces instead of 2, makes it easier to eat.

Steak Tartare was super average and the most disappointing for $26. It was paired with random sides to wrap the tartare in, like radicchio, endives, and pickled radish. The only side that went well with the tartare was the seaweed. Radicchio… I know its a bitter vegetable šŸ˜… but my friend and I both reallyyyy felt it was so bitter that the tartare tasted awful with it. We mentioned that to our server and the response back from the chef was ā€œRadicchio is supposed to be a bitter vegetable so thats how it’s supposed to beā€ honestly that really turned off our experience here.. Shouldn’t you guys take in constructive feedback especially on day 2 of your opening? Even the staff who came to ask our feedback said that they also think the chef should remove the radicchio and endives. so maybe actually take in your staff and customers’ feedback instead of just brushing us off.

Hen of the woods $18, another chef told us this dish is their 5th version of tweaking, so we have to say it still needs work. Too many flavours all in one, there’s no carb to balance it out when its got so much sauce in it. The mushrooms are delicious but it’s overpowered by all the other flavours of sweet salty sour everything all in one.

If you order drinks, recommend the Kabosu and Kuri. The cocktails menu was quite unique, definitely want to try the other drinks next time.

But for now we’ll give it a lot more time to finesse their food menu before we go back to try them again.

Aside from that, the interior design is cute and modern. Also love all the branding on the plates, coasters, and even the staff have a cute nomonomo pin on their clothes.

Service was attentive and friendly, and we really appreciated one of the chefs that created the Hen of the woods dishcome out and ask us for our feedback. It’s important to take into account regular customers’ opinions if you want to run a successful restaurant, not just food influencers/...

On a Friday evening, my fiancƩ and I had the pleasure of visiting Nomo Nomo, and we were fortunate enough to find seats at the bar. From the moment we stepped inside, I was captivated by the establishment's charming and welcoming atmosphere. The decor, which included many Japanese figurines, albums, and other cultural elements, was especially appealing. After perusing the menu, we chose to start with the bigeye tuna and the steak tartare, followed by the hen of the woods and kabocha. We also ordered four drinks in total: Suika, Kuri, and Ume, though I regret that I cannot recall the name of the last one. All four cocktails were excellent, but Kuri was particularly memorable.

We were very pleased with the bigeye tuna, kabocha, and hen of the woods. The tuna was exceptionally delicious, providing a wonderful blend of tartness and spice. The hen of the woods was unique, and as a great admirer of mushrooms, I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. The kabocha gazpacho was a new experience for me, and I was pleasantly surprised by its refreshing qualities. The steak tartare, however, did not quite stand out. The crispy rice served with it seemed darker than what our neighbors received, which resulted in a tougher texture. Despite this, we still enjoyed the overall meal and dining experience. The gentleman assisting us at the bar offered excellent descriptions of the food and beverages. My only minor suggestion would be the price point on some drinks and dishes, although given the location, it is understandable. I would certainly recommend making a reservation in advance, as seating is...

The food here was great, we got 4 dishes to share and the freshness and quality on all was delicious - no issues with this at all.My issue however was regarding the service from one gentleman in particular. The man working behind the bar questioned us multiple times as to why we were not drinking, specifically he said ā€œwhy would you come to a cocktail bar and not drink, that’s pretty lame if you ask meā€ and also referred to me and my partner as ā€œbig L’sā€ as in, losers. He said something along these lines multiple times. This was quite uncomfortable as I have been sober for one year. It honestly ruined the experience for me despite how well everything else was curated as I do not feel as though it was appropriate to have to explain the reason in which we did not want a beverage - we came for the food as we heard many positive reviews, I wasn’t aware this was an establishment in which you HAD to purchase a beverage. I will also note the two women sitting next to us also were drinking water and were subject to the same conversation for the bartender. I understand wanting to upsell but this was an extremely distasteful experience given the...

Such an amazing soft opening at Nomo Nomo Restaurant on Commercial Drive (@nomonomo ) - A Yoshoku Dining Bar & Cocktail Club. The cuisine can be described as ā€œWestern Japanese Fusion ā€œ. This is one of Vancouver’s most highly anticipated and hottest new restaurants . We didn’t have a reso but decided to do a walk-in and to our surprise was able to get a table. The entire team at Nomo Nomo was so friendly and accommodating šŸ‘. This relatively small space has a wonderful vibe to it with the food to match. We had the Prawn Toast, Big Eye Tuna, Scallop Crudo, Steak Tartare, Hen of the Woods , Iberico Tomahawk, and Ume & Papurika Cocktails. Loved how well balanced all the dishes were and how they complemented each other while each still having their own unique flavour profile. Great Job @cookingwithben_ @nomonomo šŸ‘ @thefoodiecarguy
