We somehow have neglected Siegal's Bagels for the last 20 years. Friends recently reminded us of how great they were, and we were amazed that we'd forgotten them. Chalk it up to old age. We love Granville Island and come here on almost every Vancouver visit, so this Siegal's location is ideal.
Firstly, don't forget to check-in on Yelp for a 10% discount. The center of their operation is the oven. This is where the magic happens. The oven master uses long planks as giant spatulas to bake the bagel dough. Its a great place to watch and kill some time.
The warm bagels are the best here! Even when you take them home and they've cooled, the are still very good. The thing that we love the most here is the Montreal Smoked Meat. It is like the best Pastrami that you're likely to find. They keep enough of the fat on it to keep it moist and flavorful. It comes with mustard and pickle, and I like to add onions. You get a choice of bagel flavor. They also make a bagel that is stuffed with it. DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO...
Read moreBagels are really delicious but service and price leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly, bagels are $2.25, but then if you get butter, it’s an additional $3.50. I don’t think butter, which is a topping, should cost more than the bagel itself and that was one of the cheaper toppings, cheapest being ham for $2.75 extra. If you want to get a breakfast sandwich, prices start from around $9. My friend specifically requested no raw onions on her salmon and lox bagel and they gave her raw onions. Also, the pickle that they put on the side of the wrapped bagel was very watery and dripped on her clothing when she was opening the bagel for tasting. No seating around the store and it gets super busy in the waiting area as it’s at the corridor where people are still trying to walk to get to other vendors in...
Read moreAuthentic Montreal-Style Bagels – A Must-Try! If you’re a fan of fresh, wood-fired bagels, this spot on Granville Island, Vancouver is a must-visit! Their bagels are warm, perfectly baked, and have that classic Montreal-style texture—slightly chewy with a delicious crisp on the outside. You can get them plain, stuffed, or with any topping you like.
When we visited, there was a film crew shooting a series, which delayed our order by about 30 minutes, but honestly, the bagels were worth the wait. The smell of freshly baked bagels alone makes the experience even better. Whether you enjoy them with classic cream cheese or loaded with fillings, they never disappoint. Despite the wait, the quality and taste were fantastic. If you’re in Granville Island, definitely stop by and...
