This was my girlfriend's favourite Indian restaurant and I grew to enjoy their food as well after we moved close by in the neighbourhood. However, we just had a terrible experience and I doubt if we will ever return again because as others have pointed out, the owner(s) seems to be quite dishonest. Today, we decided to order on their website for pickup (we usually do phone). We ordered but a secondary confirmation did not appear as the website said it would. My girlfriend noticed her card was charged so she called in to confirm the order manually.
A lady picked up and said there's nothing she could do, as their website was down(?). "There's nothing we can do." I took over the phone and was re-directed to a man who asked me for the Order Number from our purchase. I provided it to him, he said it did not exist. He asked what store I was calling, and had the audacity to tell me that I was calling the wrong restaurant, DESPITE me calling directly from the phone number listing on the restaurant's website. Seriously. Then he magically backtracks moments later and asks wait, what was the order number again? I tell him again and he tells us to repeat the order. Says it'll be ready in 20 minutes. Fine. 15 minutes later, we get a call back form the woman saying she cannot give us our order because they cannot confirm payment and the order. We could clearly see that my girlfriend's card was charged after checking with online banking and we had a confirmation of order... We decided to just give up at this point because this place is hopeless and a scam.
I did ask the lady why their website was still up and running if the payment portion was not working correctly on their side. Wouldn't that cause more issues with other customers? She had no reply and just told me there's nothing they can do. OK, sure.
Please be careful with your money folks, between this experience and the other bad experiences reviewed about this place, there's a common denominator on how this...
Read moreThe Tandoori Oven was my first experience with Indian cuisine in Vancouver, BC and certainly will not be the last.
Located in a strip mall, it is easily missed and does not have parking (park on the side streets). However, this place is a diamond in the rough.
This precious jewel of a restaurant is the beginning of a culinary journey across India that begins at the tip of your tongue and ends with a satiated palate.
Quality ingredients shine in each dish. The samosas and pakora are crispy and flakey, filled with tantilizing fillings. We also had a chance to try the chicken kabab. All were flavorful and complimented well with really delicious chutney and tamarind sauce.
The naan! Oh the naan was fantastic. The buttery garlic naan was great! This and a little crispy, but not overpowering. The plain naan was thicker, allowing better handling of the curry.
Our party enjoyed a variety of curries, mostly chicken and lamb. Each one had its own character, and the owner is always available to make the best recommendations.
You can phone in your order and pick it up. It will be ready right on time if you give them enough time to prepare it.
Overall, the aesthetics are simple and they are not too inviting, but you need only taste the food to embark on a journey of the tastes of India.
The owner is knowledgeable and friendly. We went two weeks in a row because it was a great experience and good quality.
Please note, this location is NOT vegetarian only, but DOES serve...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into the restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat. The decor was tastefully done, with warm lighting and vibrant colors that gave the space a cozy yet lively atmosphere. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and were happy to offer recommendations from the extensive menu.
The first dish I tried was the butter chicken, and it was hands down the best I've ever had. The chicken was incredibly tender and coated in a creamy, flavorful sauce that had just the right amount of spice. I also tried the lamb vindaloo, which was equally delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection and the sauce had a nice balance of tangy and spicy flavors.
The naan bread was a standout as well, freshly baked and served hot and fluffy with a hint of garlic. The biryani was also excellent, with perfectly cooked rice and tender pieces of chicken mixed in with fragrant spices and herbs.
For dessert, I tried the gulab jamun and was blown away by how good it was. The fried dough balls were soaked in a sweet syrup and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture that was just heavenly.
Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for exceptional Indian food. The quality of the ingredients, the attention to detail in preparation, and the warm hospitality of the staff all combined to make it a truly memorable dining experience. I can't wait to go back and try...
