This is an update on my recent experience at the Timbertain Gastown. I am not the type of person who write negative reviews but I have to address this. I was at the cafe earlier this afternoon to get my coffee. There was a barista name âChrisâ who was working there at the time. He wasnât please that I use my face-ID NFC authentication on my phone as a form of payment at the POS. He told me to put a mask back on with such an attitude. The face mask was still under my chin for only just one-second during authentication process in front of a huge plexiglass partition. I was pretty shocked and appalled by this. I make purchases 98% of the time with my phone and I do not carry a wallet. I have never had any problems anywhere in the city except this man at Timbertain Gastown. If you establishment do not honour face-id authentication payment method then I would advise you to put a sign in store. All in all I was disappointed with the experience. Spend your...
Read moreIt seems to be rather polarizing amongst people I know, but Timbertrain certainly has one of the more novel interiors (like Gastown, the space is practically built for hipster instagram photos). I happen to really appreciate the train inspired seating, but the limited space does tend to lead to difficulty in securing a seat here. I've heard that they're still figuring out what to do with the overlook area in the back and I can only hope that whatever they do (be it a tasting room or something else) provides more seating. While the pour-over coffees are very good, the mocha was a rather disappointing and whatever chocolate they use was a mismatch with the espresso served. It's alright, and their iced americano is fairly pleasant, but it's not the best I've had. I've heard that the cold brew is magnificent, but it seems that I have a knack for dropping by whenever they're out or not making any. You should try for it though if you...
Read moreI don't remember the last time I received such bad service. The barista at the cash register was impatient with me from the beginning of our interaction and made me feel bad for not knowing what I want from the start. There was no one waiting behind me so, and even if there was, she didn't take the time to make sure I got what I ordered. I asked for a long black, a very traditional drink you can order at a coffee shop. She kept saying "you want an Americano", and I kept saying no, I want less water. At least the other barista was understanding and knew what I wanted. Still, the first barista made my drink and it ended up to be an Americano (which tasted so watered down). I also ordered the cheese scone which ended up being so sweet and not savory at all. I can't speak for the other pastries. I'm not sure I'm interested in coming back. Being a barista myself, I feel this is completely unacceptable behavior for a customer...
