GOTCHA Fresh Tea- Thornhill — Restaurant in Vaughan

So good; the quality tea leaves keep me coming back for more! So far we've tried the Golden Bubble and Jasmine Green milk teas (*update: see end of review for other flavours tried). The Golden Bubble milk tea tastes roasty, malty, with a hint of chocolate. The Jasmine Green milk tea is a step up from other places - Gotcha's has this lovely extra floral note that I haven't tasted from other brands. The bubbles in both were perfectly cooked, with a good brown sugar flavour. The egg tart was lovely, really smooth and custardy, with a buttery flaky crust - much like a Portugese egg tart.

Looking at their wall, they have about 18 varieties of tea leaves ready to brew. Nice to see a place that really cares about the tea itself. One thing I wish, is that the menu clarified what kind of tea leaves are in the different milk teas. As someone who drinks a lot of tea, I'd like to know more.

Of note, their takeout bag has a cardboard stand so that the teas stay upright during transit. Parking is plentiful.

They appear to have a rewards program accessible via a tablet at the counter. Might not be available yet.

I recommend calling ahead to place your order as they can get very busy.

French bubble milk tea: Black tea with slight floral note. Tastes like a typical good black milk tea.

Barley Green milk tea: Lovely roasty genmaicha flavour, would definitely reorder!

Gotcha milk tea: Well-rounded black tea with cocoa understones

Oolong milk tea: Full-bodied, earthy green, fermented oolong flavour, would definitely reorder

English bubble milk tea: Earl grey bubble tea with a milk foam top and brown sugar boba. Nice vanilla and bergamot notes. Would reorder

Tiramisu milk tea: Black tea with cocoa notes (more so than the Gotcha and Golden); but missing the coffee/espresso notes

Gotcha fruit tea: Fruit tea with a bunch of sliced fruit. Not sure what kind of tea was in this but it was nice. Came in a large cup that came with an...

Used to love this place but after a recent incident, i will not go back. The lady who appears to be the owner is so rude and fully yelled at my husband. We got 2 drinks. For one of them, the drink was horrible as she got the ingredients wrong but we felt bad so we just said it’s ok, even though she charged us $4 for toppings that were already supposed to be included in the drink. The cup for the other drink broke and it spilled everywhere, probably a faulty cup, and when we went back to request a new one she was so rude and argued with and YELLED at my husband saying we were trying to scam them, and poured it into another small cup, but the drink was contaminated as the cup broke from both sides and had a hair in it probably from when it broke or maybe before, I don’t know. Horrible customer service. I regret pretending to like the first drink to spare her feelings. Go to another location without a greedy owner/employee. I went back in and handed her the bad drink which was full as we did not drink it since it tasted so bad, and showed her my wet pants from the broken cup and told her that I don’t need her money and did not need to scam her over a $10 drink. Didn’t even ask for a refund i just put it there and left after telling her how horrible her behaviour was....

Gotcha Tea on Steeles is a awesome spot to stop by for something bubble tea and more! While they do have a diverse selection of bubble tea drinks, they also offer excellent fruit based teas. With Gotcha tea they grow their own tea leaves in Taiwan and ship it over to Canada. They control the entire process, so you know the tea your drinking has been produced with care.

Their menu is excellent, it covers almost every specialty; from yoghurt with purple rice, brown sugar milk tea, fruit teas, cheese foam and more! When I went I got their yogurt and purple rice, which was absolutely delicious. The yogurt itself is rather light and flavorful paired with the purple rice which gives the drink a nice chew is something that is a must try.
