This used to be one of my two favorite sushi spots in the area. Now, it’s the only one left on my top list.
I haven’t told the other restaurant why I stopped going there, but I want to share the reason here—mainly to remind this place to continue maintaining their high standards.
The other place was my go-to for a long time. But I started noticing that whenever I ordered something like the Green Dragon roll or Red Dragon roll, they would use salmon belly with the skin still attached. It always tasted really fishy.
One time, I asked the server why there was skin in the roll, and they told me that the good part of the salmon—like the back meat—is used for sashimi, and the belly (with the skin) is used for the rolls. I found that explanation ridiculous.
I eat sushi more than seven times a month and have tried almost all the popular spots in the GTA. This is the only place I’ve seen do something like that—well, actually, there was one other place that did the same, and I only went there once for that exact reason.

We had an amazing experience at IKIGAI Sushi yesterday, and it absolutely lives up to its ⭐️’s rating on Google!
We ordered the Maki Platter ($55), along with Spider Rolls ($15), and the portions were more than enough for the three of us. The sushi was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—true quality that’s hard to beat.
The Japanese tea was another highlight—hot, rich, and full of flavor, making the meal even more enjoyable.
Though the restaurant is fairly small, it’s clean, simple, and perfect for a casual dine-in experience. It’s also a great spot for takeout if you’re looking for fresh sushi on the go.
