I've been of the opinion that Maker is extremely over-hyped and overpriced for what it is. They use objectively high quality ingredients, sure, but it's one of those affairs where I feel that even still, the pies should be priced at, at most, 30-40% less than they are. Having frequented the Avenue location several times over the last few years, I was looking forward to (but also worried about- due to diet, lol) them opening shop right under my nose (I live less than a minute away). I gave it a shot twice, equally disappointed on both accounts, especially when considering I'd just shelled out around $45 for a large pie with dip. Talk of objectivity- that is objectively absurd, no matter your ingredient quality. Both times the pizza seemed under-cooked and excessively doughy, much more-so than any of the pies I've had at the Ave location. Beyond that, it was kind of just a mushy mess of a pizza. I don't know what sort of quality control they're employing here, but imo not off to a great start. A close friend also gave it a try on a couple of occasions and was equally disappointed. In general I'm not a huge fan of the brand and won't ever go out of my way for it-- only ever ate at the Ave location when passing by or on the way down to a friends--, much preferring other spots in the city, and even locally. Ironically-- and this is a bit of an admission re: what a fatty I am--, on my last visit to this new Maker location, I ended up having pizza from a long-time local favourite-- Free Second Pizza on Centre St.-- later that evening at a get-together, and can honestly say I'd take their pizza all day, every day, over Maker, at a fraction the cost, no less. Highly doubt I'll be giving them anymore of my business moving forward, especially after the last two experiences at this new location- it's criminal what they charge for what you get. But kudos to whoever researched where to place this new one, because you couldn't have possibly chosen a better location, what with the legions of spoilt rotten and hype-obsessed Westmount kids just across the street, and generally in such a better-off neighbourhood. Genial choice on location really- I admire it from a business perspective. It's just hype- even the Ave location never came close to being the mind-expanding stuff so many folks pedal the illusion of it being. Over it. P.S. The dipping sauce had next to no flavour... like some lightly seasoned yoghurt...
Read moreFinally found my favorite pizza joint in Markham. Went on "National Pie day" where slices were only $3.14 (nice play on words).
Warning- if you grew up on Pizza hut, Pizza Pizza. Domino's, Papa John's or any other generic pizza chain, you will be severely disappointed.
No globs of stringy flavorless cheese, sweet tasteless tomato sauce and spongy soggy doughy crust, bye bye Felicia. My dearest pizza lovers, we are talking top quality pizzas here.
Got the basic cheese slice, didn't want any add-ons to distort the flavor profile.
YOLO'd it and also got the pepperoni vodka sauce slice.
After about 15min wait. The slices finally arrived. They were getting slammed, lines of people waiting for their slices/pies. Got bad as some people were waiting over 45mins for their orders.
One thing I didn't like was that they sprinkled parmesan cheese (at least I think it was parmesan cheese) on both slices. It added to the flavor profiles but it really wasn't necessary, some people may like it. I don't.
Both slices were on the thin side but packed with flavor. The rich tomato sauce profile came through with a nice balance/ratio to the cheese. Some like globs of cheese on their slice, I prefer a balance between the cheese and tomato sauce.
The vodka sauce on the pepperoni slice was excellent and had a nice spicy kick to it.
Both slices might be considered on the salty side (for those who are sensitive to salt), this coming from the richness of the cheese and especially from the pepperoni.
Finish this all off with a nice crispy flavorful crust.
It s so good, I ordered an additional two slices to go!
Mamma mia. That's...

I'm editing my review after ordering from this location a few times to check for consistency in the quality. We ordered So Mushroom, Frank's Best, and Tropic Thunder on all different occasions, and we definitely taste the improvement in the quality. The dough has the right flavor and has been consistently soft like the other locations. The pizzas have been cooked more well done with the perfect amount of the ingredients. We really appreciate the amount of effort they have been making to improve and perfect their pizzas. Highly recommend their Dill Buttermilk Ranch and Creamy Garlic Parmesan with Chili Crisp dipping sauces!
My boyfriend and I have been patiently waiting for the new Thornhill location to open (so much closer to us now) and while we were super excited to try their slice specials and to grab our usual pies, the experience was underwhelming. We ordered the So Mushroom, Frank's Best, two thin slice combos, and an assorted box of cookies. Unfortunately, both of the pizzas (slices & the pies) were more undercooked than usual. We were expecting the thin slices to be more thin and they lacked the cheesiness we were hoping for. The So Mushroom barely had any mascarpone and on top of that, they forgot to add honey and sesame to the crust which we paid extra for. We recognize that it was the grand opening and understand the chaos of the first day but disappointed that the quality really wasn't the same as the...
