I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism I experienced when voicing my concerns over the phone to the manager and owner at this bakery. I had picked up a cake I had ordered and said that I had eaten food and cakes from here before (ex. Lemon pie, red velvet etc.), informed them of my nut allergy and asked if there were any nuts inside the cake I was buying. I specifically stated that i understand there are nuts on the premises but as long as there were no nuts in the cake I was buying, it would be okay for me to eat it. This applies to every restaurant, where I inform the server of my allergy and they either assert me or warn me of the food I’m ordering. However, in this case, the employees exact words were “there are no nuts in this cake. It is literally just chocolate, caramel sauce and cheesecake. No nuts.” She did not say she was unsure or she cannot guarantee anything. When I brought the cake to work, I had taken a bite of it and there were nuts in it. I was lucky enough where I was able to spit it out but still had to leave work and go to the hospital. Though I had a minor reaction, this could have been much more serious if I had swallowed the cake. I’ve been to countless restaurants and bakeries and never has something like this happened before.
I had called today to solely inform them of what had happened so if someone asks in the future they would know that the cake had nuts. My purpose for calling was to also inform them that I understand mistakes happen but this was a serious one and they should’ve said they were unsure instead of asserting that there were no nuts. I didn’t ask for any compensation but the person I spoke to on the phone was very hostile, raising her voice, saying that I should have seen the “cannot guarantee this is a nut free facility” sign and that her staff would’ve informed me of it. If her staff said she was unsure, I wouldn’t have bought the cake, let alone called to complain. Again, I’ve been to numerous restaurants and bakeries with no problems! The person I spoke to on the phone wouldn’t allow me to speak and when I did, she said “my sentences were too long” indicating she wasn’t interested to hear what I had to say. This dismissive attitude was disrespectful and unsympathetic. She then passed me to the owner and trying to calmly explain that I didn’t want anything except to inform them of what happened, the owner asked me if I had to miss work and how much I got paid an hour (which I thought was condescending) and then further said she didn’t have time for this and hung up the phone. This was unacceptable. This could have been a life or death situation for me and their attitude and lack of understanding towards the gravity of this situation was pathetic. They raised their voice, were extremely rude and barely let me speak. They didn’t even apologize for what had happened!!
I understand they wanted to protect themselves and did so by blaming me, but I called to inform them so that this wouldn’t happen again to someone who may not have been lucky like me. The staff at this bakery proved to me that they do not understand that a small error in asserting a customer can lead to a life or death outcome. When serving food you have an obligation to be informed and cautious and if you don’t know, then do not assert! I was left feeling shocked, frustrated and hurt by the lack of humanity in this situation. No matter what the nature of a complaint is, this was no way to handle one. It’s very unfortunate but I will not continue to support or be a customer at this...
Read moreI ordered A large meat lasagna for my granddaughter’s first birthday party. This was the first time I’ve ever been to Maple bakery as I live in Toronto, the lasagna came highly recommended by two good friends so I thought I’d give it a try. When I picked up the lasagna, It was in a pizza box so the depth of the lasagna was quite small. Nevertheless, it was warm and freshly made that morning. Upon serving the lasagna Several hours later, I discovered That there is no cheese, not 1 ounce. Very disappointed and so we’re all the guests. I called the very next day , asking if the meat lasagna has cheese in it, and they asked me to call the next day after that. when I called on Monday morning they told me to call the next day. I then asked them to call me as two attempts were enough. On Tuesday no one called so I finally called them. They were very nice. Heard my story and said that she would talk to the owner and get back to me first thing Wednesday morning on Wednesday morning. She called me and apologized and stated it was an oversight and they would refund me the money. On Thursday I drove to Maple to pick up the refund and they only offered me $130 but the total was 146. I asked why wasn’t I getting the full refund? She then had to go speak to someone returned and asked if I had a picture of the lasagna, I showed her a picture of my one year-old granddaughter with some lasagna in her plate. She then showed my picture to someone in the back room, returned and said they’re with withholding the taxes as the lasagna did Get eaten. I wanted to give a positive review as I feel they admitted to their mistake. The fact that they did not want to refund me the full amount is the reason I will never step foot in that bakery again and I will definitely be telling my friends the experience I...
Read moreI ordered the 8 inch strawberry shortcake and tiramisu. They are both beautiful in their own ways. Only thing I was surprised that the strawberry shortcake was not covered in white chocolate shavings as per photo on their online ordering. Make sure you specify that you want white chocolate shavings because i was informed they switch it up from time to time. The buttercream roses on the strawberry shortcake is beautiful!!!! Will attach photos soon as soon as we dig in. 5/5
Update*
The cakes were beautiful!!! I know there wasn't white chocolate around the strawberry shortcake but the huge white chocolate slab that had happy mothers day wording I requested made up for it from the tiramisu cake.
Tiramisu was okay to be honest...the sponge from the tiramisu was overly soaked and I ate a chunk of ice crystals which indicated it was from frozen. I am also confused as to why the strawberry shortcake had blueberries in it?
Nonetheless the strawberry shortcake was more delicious than the tiramisu. I think making your own tiramisu from scratch is much more worth it than purchasing a tiramisu from maple bakery. However if the bakery makes these adjustments with not oversoaking the tiramisu sponge and making it fresh i would definitely...
