Visit this restaurant on a slow night for best experience.
The restaurant has four booths and a number of regular dining tables. They can potentially accommodate as many as fifty people at once. We were present when the restaurant was at capacity. The kitchen as well as floor staff were way too overwhelmed. Consequently the service level simply sucked. Unfortunately this was not just some crazy busy night but something that they were advised about and agreed to cater to in advance. So the management simply failed to deliver an adequate level of service.
The restaurant decor is quite nice, and the uniqueness of serving platters and presentation is very welcoming among mundane offerings of competing "authentic cuisine" restaurants. The table tops are real wood with a live edge and certainly is more pleasing to dine in a such setting.
Appetizers are on a level when delivered in a not burned condition. Some dishes are bit too spicy for Canadian palate, but we didn't come across anything that we didn't want to sample.
Key offerings are shish-kebabs. Chicken was very good. We skipped the lamb option. For some unknown reason beef kebab was not available at a prime dining time on a Friday. Pork kebab was grilled properly but tasted just okay, certainly not worth taking it over chicken.
Side meat sauces were not really to my liking. I've had better elsewhere.
Georgia is famous for their wines and liquors. Surprisingly, our waitress didn't bother to offer or recommend us anything.
Side dishes are not numerous in choice but there are some good options to complement your meats. Pickled vegetables were great, and french fries were some of the best we ever had. Home-style garlic roasted potatoes were just okay. I think they just ended up as yet another victim of an overly busy night for the kitchen. Overall our experience celebrating a birthday was really disappointing. However, the kitchen has potential and the overall prices are attractive. I think if we can manage a visit on a slow night our experience can end up being...
Read moreI haven’t ever tried Georgian food, not even once did I consider it in my life. Yes I have had their delicious wines but never their cuisine and what a delicious surprise it was. We saw this place which was down the street from our house and decided to give it a go.
My wife and I both didn’t know what to expect and nor did we even know where to start when it came to ordering food off the menu. The waitress was so helpful and she guided us through the menu with patience. She was excited for us to try it for our first time. The place was packed with people eating and drinking wine.
We started off with the white house wine which wasn’t bad at all and the Harcho which was a traditional Georgian soup with beef, rice, herbs, and spices. It was very comforting, true soul food. The rice was a little over cooked in the soup but it was still enjoyable. Had a beautiful array of spices that worked well.
Another dish ordered was the Khachapuri Adjaruli which was a boat-shaped bread filled with melted cheese and topped with an egg. This was heavenly. The waitress showed us how to eat it and mixed the egg and cheese for us on top. The bread itself was light, airy, yet chewy, basically perfect. The cheese and egg yolk on top was an amazing mixture and combined with this bread hands down almost perfect combination. We both loved it.
Let’s not forget the Khinkali which were dumplings with ground beef are like soup dumplings on steroids. Biting this almost raw twisted knob off the top of the dumpling and sucking back the juices inside was divine. Simple straight forward taste of beef and it’s juices in your mouth down to your soul.
I did try Megrelian Kharcho “SARCO” which had Beef, mushrooms, bacon, walnuts, and spices. This was my least favourite dish and one I didn’t enjoy very much. This walnut sauce was very bitter and astringent. Leaving a foul taste in my mouth.
I guarantee I will be back here again and this time with friends who have never tried Georgian Cuisine and have no desire because they will...
Read moreI gambled and chose this restaurant over another nearby restaurant that I visit time to time for a small b-day gathering. In short, this was the best decision I have ever made....in my life!
When I entered the restaurant, I was initially thinking to myself, "ah...man... this might be one of those pretentious upscale restaurants with substandard foods with high price tags.", because the decor was spectacular. They had a bear cub on a tree. Not only that, every plate, glass, tea cup, spoon, fork, knife were sparkling. The place was immaculate. At this point, I was scared to open up the menu. After looking at the menu, I realized that the prices were actually quite reasonable.
Anyway, I didn't know anything about Georgian foods, and I wasn't entirely familiar with what's on the menu. The waitress gave us some recommendations. They were skewered lamb with side dish of mashed potato, Beef with side dish of vegetable stew, Georgian bread, puff pastry with cheese, Chicken dish (Megrelian Kharsho, which was great with Georgian bread), Georgian dumpling (?).
Foods were wholesome, comforting, and delicious. There was nothing pretentious about them. We shared all the foods. I wish I knew how to cook like this.
The waitress! She was awesome! She got me a slice of cake (one of us mentioned that it was my b-day). Yeah! A slice of cake with a candle! Thank you for not bringing out panduri and started singing. I would've disappeared into oblivion (under the table).
I don't think there was anything I could ask for...
