I consider myself a pizza fanatic, and my range of great pizza extends to legends like Di Fara, Johns on Bleeker St., Kestes, Spumoni Gardens, Gino's of Long Beach, Frank Pepe's in MA, Regina's in Boston, and some greats in Chicago that I can't remember off hand.
This pizza was a solid NYC 7.6. I had the meat lovers and it was well balanced, with all the flavors standing out. It had a very nice Italian seasoned meatball, crispy bacon, large pepperoni slices (I prefer the smaller kind personally). I think the total flavor of the pie was lacking a cohesion that would elevate the pie. The pizza was cooked just right with minimal flop and a perfect undercarriage. It had a pleasant amount of red sauce that also was nice and garlic-ie. The cheese was not over done and while it has reg and fresh mozzarella, it don't over power the pizza given all the other flavors on it.
I will definitely go back next time I visit and try a different pizza. I definitely recommend this place. Not only because of the pizza but because the staff were great going above and beyond to help this poor tourist enjoy there pizza. (It's a take out only...
Read moreRecommended by our friends, we tried Standard on a whim after coming home from a weekend of camping. We ordered for pick-up, and were told to come collect the pizza in 15 mins. The menu is small and eclectic, giving a lot of interesting and tasty combinations to try. We ordered the margherita and bacon pizzas, both small sizes. The restaurant itself is cozy and unassuming from the outside with no frills advertising, and the space inside is also eclectic and interesting use of the space.
As for the pizza, it is hands down the best neopolitan style pizza in downtown. The crust is crisp and crunchy, the center isn’t under or over cooked, and the garlic and egg yolk on the bacon pizza is an incredible accoutrement to the other toppings, and the white sauce is perfect. As for portion sizes, “small” is deceiving, as it would be easily considered a medium somewhere else. For two small pizzas that came to the same price as a large, the value is great and the pizza is even better. We can’t wait to go back and try the other combinations! We ate everything too fast to remember to take...
Read moreTL;DR - I'm not mad, just disappointed. Inexplicably rude customer service ruins an otherwise decent pie.
I travelled across the country to be snubbed by a Walmart brand Colin Farrell hipster. Cool, cool, cool.
But in all seriousness, it was almost comical the level of disdain that the front counter exhibited towards me. Last I checked, ordering a pizza is a perfectly acceptable thing to do in a pizzeria, but I'm new to the island, what do I know.
I didn't even know it was possible to perform a full body eye-roll.
Twice.
I ordered two pizzas.
Anyways, pizza was fine; good chew, decent amount of toppings, fairly typical sauce.
To the staff in the kitchen, I'd recommend finding someone less condescending to be your customer facing agent. It's a shame to see good work ruined by someone clearly not suited for the position. Sorry, if he's your boss. You deserve better.
3/5 - Can't say I'll be coming back to this pizzeria. Mediocre food served with a smile is preferable to exceptional food served with a side of excrement. And I got a whopping pile...
