16 minutes ago- I rarely review anything under 3 stars. But tonight's experience was poor to start and then worst by the end. We went in for a late night happy hour drink/bite around 945pm. The server was taking our order and as a neighbour and patron, I knew that it was happy hour. When asked about the happy hour menu, we were told there was none for night time. A few minutes after the server left the table he returned and provided us with a correction that there was a happy hour menu. No big deal, we were still able to order off of it. 10 minutes later we receive the food and the fries were yam instead of regular potatoes that we had ordered. We got that fixed and were offered them for free. That's nice of the server, but still an error with nothing to gloat about, especially when he came back to say that we ended up getting to enjoy both fries. Still nothing worthy to have me write a negative review on. The last straw was that my friend bought a gift card from Moxies directly on the Moxies website and the reason we went there tonight (as she is from out of town and there are better options as a tourist) was because she had the gift card. The gift card unfortunately was not working due to the fact the company's platform that Moxies works with was out of service and we were told that it happens often. So they told us the gift card that we purchased directly from Moxies would not work and that we need to come back another time when it hopefully works. No other option such as a discount was provided. Both the manager and server responded with "I'm just a worker /server here, what do you want me to do? It's $77.30". As a large chain restaurant this is far from acceptable. And as a resident who lives across the street, I will not be recommending anyone to go to their restaurant unless they accept the poor handling of this situation. This was not a good night in dining out for my friend who is visiting from...

Food: Was slightly above average definitely not worth the price we paid. I have been to similar restaurants with better food and a fairer price.
Environment: Place looked great, hostess put us in the seats we needed, music volume reasonable. More importantly, place and cutlery were clean.
Server: Polite, pleasant and respectful, although she did 2 minor errors that didn't affect the experience that much. Overall before the very end, I thought the server did a very good job.
Everything was going okay (could have left 3 or 4 stars), until the very end, when our server showed the bill to her to one of her co-workers and we could see the look of disappointment and mockery on their faces. Bill was a bit over 100 dollars for 2 mains, 2 entrees and a desert. To be frank, the tip we left was not much, but it was not a reflection of the server's performance. The reason why we left a small tip was simple: we don't make much money and rarely go to fancy restaurants, so when we do go, we unfortunately cannot afford to give a good tip. The server and her co-worker apparently did not like that and it made us feel that we were not welcomed at the restaurant if we cannot leave a good tip, which ruined our whole experience. If that is the Moxies message, then the restaurant should have a sign or warning that dining at Moxies is only for those who can leave a good tip, but no where did we see such a sign. Customers should not have their experience ruined because of tipping, which is optional. If servers are not happy about their pay, then the onus is on the restaurant to improve their pay, not the customer. You are better off to go a different restaurant where servers will not judge you based on the optional tip...
Read moreThe ambiance and warm, inviting décor created an exceptional setting for a memorable evening. The service was exceptional, with our server, Sig, being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. We extend our sincere gratitude to Sig and the kitchen crew for an unforgettable night. After a demanding week, it was a pleasure to savour a delectable meal and spend quality time with my loved ones.
From the bar, Madri Exceptional lager was a standout, instantly transporting me back to my time in Barcelona, and Nancy's glass of Kim Crawford, from New Zealand, was delightful.
We particularly enjoyed several traditional dishes, which were prepared to perfection. We commenced the evening with a platter of dry ribs seasoned with salt and pepper, garnished with a splash of fresh lemon. My grandson, Leo, and I engaged in a friendly competition for the final piece. I have a fondness for French Dip, as it reminds me of my late nights at Scorpion Restaurant, where I would enjoy a leftover prime rib on a French baguette dipped in au jus after a memorable evening of service. Moxies’s French Dip exceeded my expectations. If you, like me, dislike ketchup, I recommend ordering garlic mayo for your fries to ensure a delightful experience. Nancy’s cheeseburger was everything you could hope for in an exceptional burger bursting with flavour. We were impressed by Leo’s ability to complete a double protein serving of grilled chicken accompanied by a bed of white rice. This healthy option provided a satisfying choice for a young boy. We highly recommend Moxies Vic to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in downtown Victoria,...
