Step into a culinary realm where ordinary brunch transforms into an extraordinary saga of flavors and sensations! My recent encounter with the limited-time Hamburger Egg Benedict dish at Ruby on Douglas, transcended mere breakfast—it was a gastronomic odyssey!
Picture this: a delicate symphony of poached eggs, gently nestled atop a juicy all Canadian beef patty and a toasted brioche bread, all drenched in a decadent hollandaise sauce that danced upon my taste buds like a maestro conducting a masterpiece. Each bite was a revelation, a harmonious blend of textures and tastes that elevated the humble egg to celestial heights!
But alas, dear reader, let me lament the cruel fate that has befallen us! For this celestial creation, this culinary marvel, is but a fleeting muse, a transient dream that vanishes with the setting sun. How can we bear the thought of never again experiencing the sublime ecstasy of that perfect breakfast dish? The mere contemplation is enough to bring tears to the eyes and sorrow to the soul!
As I pen this review, my heart weighs heavy with the realization that future patrons may never have the privilege of savoring this divine dish. Oh, the injustice of it all! To tantalize our taste buds with such brilliance, only to snatch it away like a thief in the night—it is a travesty of the highest order!
So I implore you, dear owners of this fine establishment, make this dish a permanent feature to your menu. So future patrons can revel in its glory. Do not let this dish be a distant memory; a whispered tale of gastronomic bliss lost to the...

I recently had brunch at Ruby on Douglas in Victoria and overall, it was a fairly enjoyable experience. The wait time was reasonable, which was a relief given how busy it can get during brunch hours. The restaurant has a vibrant and welcoming vibe that immediately sets a positive tone for the meal.
We ordered the eggs benny and chicken waffles, both of which were delicious. The eggs benny was perfectly cooked with a creamy hollandaise sauce that had just the right amount of tang. The chicken waffles were a delightful combination of crispy and savory, paired perfectly with the syrup. The portions were generous, and the presentation was appealing, making the food even more enjoyable.
However, the cappuccino was a significant letdown. It was far too bitter for my taste and lacked the smooth, rich flavor I expect from a good cappuccino. Additionally, it was disappointing to see that there was no latte art, which is something I always look forward to as it adds a nice touch to the coffee experience. To top it off, the server accidentally spilled some of the cappuccino while serving it, which was a bit off-putting.
Despite the disappointing cappuccino, the overall atmosphere of Ruby on Douglas made up for it. The decor is stylish, and the ambiance is lively without being too noisy. The staff was friendly and attentive, which added to the positive experience. I would give Ruby on Douglas a solid 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend it for the food and the ambiance, but perhaps not...
Read moreI looked this place up and seen the neat decor and some decent reviews and so myself and partner decided to wonder in and try it out. What we did not know is that the restaurant is attached to the lobby of the hotel Zed and honestly that is completely alright if there was not guest walking in and out of the only doors into the small building.
The restaurant is very small maybe max 15 tables i am not even sure of that. and note the tables are so close together your practically touching the other person food... the wait times a little long so be ready.
The food, I ordered the Ruby Chicken sandwich. I have had a better sandwich from KFC then this tasteless bun with some mayo on it.
The chicken is low quality dark meat, the so called chimichurri sauce it comes with well there was none i think there might have been a hint of pepper... There Aioli is good old mayo nothing more then that, and the green it was a the smallest amount of lettuce ive seen on a burger again KFC does it better there located next door too!
There fries are really small over cooked old oil bits, you want frie bits come here! but they ant good.
All and all i wont be back to this restaurant it just really was not a good experience at all. hopefully you can...
