This was my first time at this restaurant. I searched for breakfast places in Waterloo and this establishment came up as a top recommendation.
When I pulled into the parking lot, there were a lot of parking spots; however, I was able to snag the last one. The restaurant was very busy. I recommend calling ahead to book a reservation. I'm unsure if you can do this (but I would try anyway) as I was a walk-in with my partner. We didn't wait too long for a table which was great. Probably only 5 minutes or so. This is typically a good sign as the food tends to be fresher and a busy parking lot is a good indicator that the restaurant is good.
My partner ordered the Mega Breakfast which came with two eggs, hash browns (shredded potatoes), toast, sausage, bacon and ham with a side of oatmeal in addition to pancakes. You can opt in for French toast instead of the pancakes. He enjoyed his meal overall. The portioning was good. He didn't get a chance to try the oatmeal so I can't provide feedback on that.
I ordered the Deluxe BLT. This came with bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato & cheddar cheese; topped with a medium fried egg & garlic mayo which is served on multigrain toast. My dish came with hash browns (shredded potatoes) as well. I requested the egg on the side as I've never had a BLT with egg in it before. If you don't like cheddar cheese, you can opt out and ask for provolone instead. As much as I do enjoy a good BLT, the bacon was too salty. I had to use ketchup to cover some of the saltiness and it helped me enjoy the sandwich better. The only disappointment with this sandwich was that there was barely any avocado inside. It was just a small spread on the toast. I have been to other places where they cut the avocado fresh and it also appears to be more present than in a spread.
Our server was very good. She checked in on us multiple times to make sure that we were ok. Overall, I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. They also take...
Read moreGood food, good atmosphere, bad service. We showed up at 9:15, my fiancé and I were having breakfast with a friend, our friend showed up a little late so we didn’t end up getting out breakfast order in until about 9:40. Food didn’t end up coming out until around 10:00, finished eating around 10:30, then at 10:45 our server comes to our table and says “is there anything else we can get for you?” We say “no” as we had just finished our coffees and were in fact planing on leaving soon, but instead of leaving voluntarily, the server then tells us “well we have a lot of people waiting for a table…” without a sorry or any sort of apologetic behaviour, after we had tipped 20%… And I do understand other tables want to be served, but there were larger tables that were there before us and were there after us who were already fed and just chatting/drinking coffee, additionally, as someone who worked in the industry for 15+ years, I’ve never kicked a table out unless there was a reservation at the table they were sitting at, and even if I did, there is a significantly better way to go about it. We were in the middle of talking about our friend’s mother in law passing away, but it had to be interrupted to let the next table in. I don’t make negative reviews, especially on mom and pop shops such as this. But clearly Corner Kitchen isn’t suffering by any means…
TLDR; this is fast food. Get in. Get out. Make room for the next table. Don’t even think about making conversation after your plates...
Read moreThe service was absolutely amazing and all of the staff were very kind and accommodating. The interior felt really fancy and despite that it had pretty common diner prices. They had a lot of options for food so there's something for everyone including a lot of vegeterian/vegan options. As for the food, I had high expectations coming in because of the high rating and everyone was so kind it makes it difficult to write a negative review but the food isn't something I would spend $30 for. I ordered the hot chocolate and the eggs bennidict. The hot chocolate tasted like it was made with water and didn't have a great texture, the taste was a classic hot chocolate flavor, no complaints. The eggs Benedict tasted okay but very underwhelming. There was nothing wrong with the food but there wasn't really much in those 2 dishes that made it worth paying for. The flavour was minimal and the portions are decent. My hot chocolate and eggs Benedict came out to about $30 and although the service was great, I simply cannot justify paying $30 for one mediocre dish and what tasted like watered down dollarama hot chocolate. Take my review with a grain of salt because I am also someome that doesn't eat out too often so when I do I like my food to be a 10/10 and this restaurant just didn't do it for me. If you regularly eat out and can afford to spend $30 on a meal even if it's mediocre I still suggest checking it out since the almostphere and service are...
