This review comes after my previous two lunch outings to Molly's; the food was disappointing the first time (Friday August 30th) and the service the second (Tuesday September 3).
On Friday I ordered the vegetarian Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and it came slightly warm on not-so-fresh bread, dripping in too much mayo and oil, stuffed with mostly vegetables with minimal portabello substituting the cheesesteak. The fries that came with it were small enough they should have been called homefries since I needed a fork for them. Oh well. Folks deserve a second chance if its a one-off mistake.
Well then comes the lunch hour today and we go for lunch at Molly's. We sit at the booth and when the (manager?) came over to give us menus, I leave my coffee on the table to figure out what I want. She jokes "oh I see you brought me a coffee!", grabs the coffee, and we joke about getting a discount for it. She asks if we want anything to drink and of course we start talking and she says she'll be right back. At this point I realize that she took my coffee with her and my roomie is saying he saw her dump it behind the bar. Queue her coming back and me confronting her, no apology, only the hard instruction that there's no outside food/drink and that I missed the sign on the door saying so. Now, I'd have not been offended if someone told me "would you please step outside and finish your coffee or I can throw it out for you, there's no outside food/drink" but the disrespect of not making me aware of that, and of deceiving me into thinking she was joking, just leaves a bad impression with me.
A third time I went here for their Game of Thrones S8E4 event (Sunday May 5th) and they had one projector playing the episode without subtitles on quiet volume while the NBA games played loudly on every other TV. Pick one thing to be good at right?
So there you have it, gave them more than a couple chances to not leave a bad impression. Unfortunately that seems to be a consistent outcome...
Read moreThe service was great and quick.
The food was not so good. I had the Beef Dip with fries, the sandwich was soggy before I even dipped it in the Au Jus(which was very bland) clearly was not tosated ling enough. I have had many beef dips and being a cook prepared many as well but not have been this bland or baby food texture like this. The fries were also soggy and felt like they were re-cooked a few times or sat in a vat of grease to long.
My gf had the Celtic Club again the fries were soggy and waterlogged with grease. The sandwich looked amazing and thats kinda where it ended the bread wasn't toasted enough and the sandwich was bland with no flavor.
We were not even offered utensils and the water we asked for never showed and to boot it wasn't that busy. Over all it was a mediocre night out, which is why we don't do it much any more since we can always make better at home.
Pitcher of beer was good, the patio was great on a Friday evening and the Blue jays...
Read moreWent here with my wife Saturday evening. We ordered the appetizer platter-chicken fingers, sweet potato fries, onion rings, deep fried dill pickles, carrot and celery sticks with 4 dipping sauces. However, there were no celery sticks. When we brought this to the attention of the waiter, he said there were no celery sticks left and that's why they gave us extra carrot sticks. I laughed out loud and told him we only received 4 tiny carrot sticks. He then brought us a whole extra bowl of carrot sticks. The waiter was awesome! Very congenial and attentive and funny. Was puzzled that we received only 3 chicken fingers-thought it should be at leat 4 for 2 people. Place was lively, full of University students and there was a live band. They were excellent, but didn't know most of the songs. The food was excellent, crispy and delicious. Platter was $35 ($10 more than last year) and we has a pitcher of beer for just under $19. It was a good experience....
