Dear Beach House Team,
I wanted to provide some feedback on a recent experience my partner and I had at your restaurant, as we believe it may help improve overall guest satisfaction and service. We made a reservation for the patio several weeks in advance to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Upon arrival for our 7:00 PM reservation, we were informed that the booking was for the indoor patio, and the outdoor patio was available on a first-come, first-served basis (this was fine as it was made clear at the time of booking online). We understood this and asked if it would be possible to wait for a spot on the outdoor patio instead. The hostess told us the wait would be about 15–20 minutes, which we were happy to do. After about 30 minutes, we were called back for seating. However, we overheard a conversation between the hosts indicating that we should not be seated at the available beachfront spot, but instead in a middle section, and that we should not be moved if we requested it. When we were seated in the middle section, we asked if we could be moved to the beachfront table, as it was open. We were told it was reserved, "probably for a VIP", even though we had been informed earlier that the patio was non-reservable. Shortly after, two additional beachfront tables became available as the restaurant began to clear. Another staff member kindly moved us to one of those tables, which we appreciated. However, after being seated, we waited for approximately 20 minutes without any acknowledgment or service. At that point, we asked to speak to a manager to share our concerns directly. The manager came by and was very kind and apologetic. He explained that the outdoor patio shouldn’t have been open that day due to staffing issues, and they hadn’t expected the weather to be as nice as it was. He took our order right away. I ordered the garden burger, and my partner had the sablefish along with a glass of Prosecco — no modifications were made to either dish. A few minutes later, another server approached our table to take our order again, which indicated there was a lack of communication between the manager and the serving staff. We let her know we had already placed our order with the manager. When our food arrived shortly after, unfortunately, the quality didn’t meet expectations. My fries were lukewarm, and the top of my burger bun had small liquid bubbles on the side — which I didn't want to imagine what it was, but wasn’t very appetizing so I didn't eat the top bun. My partner also mentioned that some bites of his dish had an off taste. At the end of our meal, the server kindly offered us dessert, but since both of us are dairy-free and the dessert options weren’t suitable, we politely declined and asked for the bill. She said she would bring it, but after another 20 minutes with no update, we decided to go inside to pay, as we were ready to leave. As we made our way in, the manager met us outside and let us know the bill had been taken care of, which we appreciated. However, we had not been informed of this, so we weren’t sure whether we were still waiting or if there had been another delay. Overall, while we understand that unexpected challenges can arise — particularly with staffing and busy nights — we feel that there were several missed opportunities for communication and service clarity. We hope our feedback can help improve processes around patio seating, communication between management and staff, and ensuring that food quality is consistent regardless of staffing levels. We truly appreciate the manager’s gestures to make things right, and we wanted to share our experience in the spirit of improvement. Thank you for taking the time to...
Read moreWe went to the Beach House for dinner and to try the DineOut menu for my friend’s birthday.
I would like to preface by saying the food and atmosphere were delicious and very enjoyable! We ordered: Appetizers: Oyster and the crispy salmon Main: Spaghettini Desert: Both options
We agreed we would definitely try Beachhouse again as the food was great but our service was TERRIBLE
We were seated right away - unfortunately beside a table who was blasting music on their IPad. There were a number of other tables in the section open but we just ignored it and hoped they would eventually put it away.
We were greeted promptly by our servers assistant and brought water, which was good, because it took about 15 mins for our server, Matthew, to come to our table. Not the end of the world, but he walked past us a few times without saying anything. (I’m in the service industry and a quick “hey guys I’ll be right back” goes a long way to making sure no one feels forgotten). He asked for our drink order and my friend ordered a dirty martini. She specified she wanted it pretty cloudy and extra olives on the side. My vesper came correctly but her martini was clear and no olives. He left before we could say anything. When he came back 10 mins later we asked if he could fix it or just bring some more olives for her. The manager / another server brought it back fairly quickly which we appreciated.
He returned to asked us what we were thinking of ordering on the menu. We said we wanted to do the DineOut menu and it felt like he was trying to talk us out of it saying there were better portions and options on the regular menu... He left us for another 10 mins and when he returned we confirmed that we still wanted that menu option.
Our appies came quickly and were delicious. We finished our drinks around the time the appies came, as martinis aren’t very big, but unfortunately we didn’t see Mathew - or his assistant or a manager - again until our mains arrived. When I said we didn’t see him, he walked past us a few times, but it was clear he was more concerned with the tables around us. We would have easily ordered more oysters, 1-2 more martinis, and birthday shots in the time we were waiting but were not given the opportunity. We ordered wine to go with our mains to avoid any further mix ups and to make it easier on the bartender. Matthew checked on us again finally when our desert came, at which time, we had kind of given up and let him know we were done. We waited a half hour watching him walk past us multiple times, and trying to make eye contact, until we finally had to wave down another server and ask for our bill.
We recognize that we were a small table, but you never know who you’re serving at a small or big table. It truly felt like as soon as he saw we were two girls and ordering the DineOut menu, that he viewed us as a low value table and prioritized everyone around us. Our bill was $200 but would have easily been closer to $400+ with a generous tip (as we both serve) if he had even tried to pay attention to us.
Unfortunate service experience and missed attention to detail or timing but would recommend food, ambience,...
Read moreI am so sorry that I have to make this post. I have lived on the NS for 56 yrs and in that timeline, we have spent over the years Brunch and Lunch here.
Unfortunately this past year should have been exceptional.
It was not meant to be. The management is what needs re-organization. Now I understand these days it is extremely difficult to find good help as everyone is trying to think they can make it on social media and that the cost of living is outrageous and some industries are not paying enough for professionals to stay in one place for very long. That being said, there truly is no excuse for poor service.
Yes, the good points are we are greeted and when taking our reservations with ease and great attitudes.
The servers were polite and professional.
Unfortunately, here is where things turn for the worse and fall off the table.
They’re over staffed, conversations between staff members were crowding customers tables and their was only one person behind the bar servings drinks , they should have had two behind the bar.
Our server did not know how to split the bill when it was time for us to leave. This is standard procedure in the restaurant industry.
It looked like to me there were 3 people acting as managers but all I saw when looking atoning was them walking and not engaging with their staff and customers.
Trust me I see everything. Too many staff on the floor and again not working sure you can walk around but you should be paying attention to your customers, it took us twenty (20) minutes to make eye contact with any server at this point to receive the bill.
The food, which usually is spectacular was mediocre and that is so unlike this restaurant. The plates even though we were told they were hot they were cold or luke warm and the brunch was not to our expectations.
Now, you really need to get on board with decaf coffee and cappuccino decaf. There are no excuses you have the means and the funds you should have this on the menu. No excuses.
The outside was not being used and it was a beautiful warm day to get your customers into the sunshine and use the beautiful umbrellas and tables and utilize the spectacular view, when we asked if we could sit outside we received a curt response no,
This should have been followed by an explanation and being courteous would have been appreciated.
Unfortunately, we will no longer be making the effort to have brunch here or dinner or any other meals.
The bathroom was disgusting, wet sinks, I cleaned toilet seats, low on toilet paper, dark atmosphere decor needs renovating and to make this space welcoming instead of waking onto a dungeon like atmosphere.
Parking is hard here but that is not something to worry about.
I truly hope that these points are taken as constructive criticism.
I hate writing poor reports as 90% of my reviews are positive.
I wish you the best and I hope that management can sit back listen and hear and reorganize your...
