The first time I went to Beertown. I had a great experience. Great. Food, great service, great patio. Only thing disappointing was the beer I ordered was all out and a new keg wasn't cold enough to serve. I was given a small taste of what they had left which I thought was good, no charge. Second time I went, even more amazing! My choice of beer was unavailable again, same beer that was unavailable the first time. I didn't mind though because they had other choices that were tasty. I ordered food, it was so amazing, dessert was amazing, the server was amazing. It was an awesome, memorable time. So I went back for a third time. Nope. Not going back now. Maybe I'm comparing the third experience to the second, which maybe just can't be beat, but I doubt it. No room outside so we sat inside. Low lighting, couldn't see well. So because I couldn't see well, I chose to not order any meat as I like to make sure it's cooked thoroughly but would be unable to check in such low lighting. Our server came over just as I opened the drink menu and asked what I'd like. I kindly said I'm not sure yet, but asked right away about my favourite beer that I tried to order the first and second time. They did not have it available again. Ok. So I ordered the same drink that enjoyed the second time there. They didn't have those either so she brought me a substitute. Ok. That's ok. Short while later, ordered food and not too long later, it came out. It was not very appealing. It was messy, looked quickly thrown together, didn't have a lot of ingredients on it, one dish was so salty and the other had harden cheese all stuck together on the top. I didn't complain, just said thank you. No water was offered at all the entire meal. Had to wave her down to order another drink as she didn't stop by at all to check in, ordered dessert and after waiting for a long time, I receivedthe wrong dessert. I told the waitress what I had ordered and said sorry to her. I wasn't rude at all, she said sorry too and took it away, I finally flagged down my waitress and asked to please cancel my dessert and that I would please just take the bill. Then a different waited came by and brought the dessert I had actually ordered, when he placed it on the table, he asked me if it's ok now. I was just like of like yeah but was waiting for my waitress to come back. I just moved the dessert over and he came back over to take it. We got the bill, paid and left. The service tonight was not nice, I didn't feel welcome, I felt like I had done something wrong. The food presentation was bad and it wasn't very warm, it wasn't very tasty. I guess 2 out of 3 isn't bad. But there will not be a fourth. I'm always polite, and say please and thank you and smile, especially when it comes to someone making my food. I also always leave a great tip. Tonight, I didn't leave a big tip. I still tipped but it was way less then the...
Read moreMy friends and I came in for lunch a few weeks ago and, while we tried to be understanding and patient throughout the evening, we left with a negative experience. Shortly after we were seated, a glass of water was accidentally spilled on one of my friends. Accidents happen, and we were very understanding (we’re servers too so we understand it happens)— but when paired with everything else that followed, it became more frustrating that nothing was offered to acknowledge or make up for the mishap. Our entrees took over an hour to arrive after we ordered — about 40 minutes after finishing our appetizers. We checked in with our server roughly 30 minutes after we finished the apps to ask about the delay. She said she’d find out, but never returned with an update. It felt like we were being avoided. Sixteen minutes later, only half the entrees arrived. When another server passed by and asked if we were okay, we kindly mentioned we’d been waiting quite a while. Her response — “it says 16 minutes on our board” — came off as dismissive, especially since it had been exactly 16 minutes since we’d asked about the food, suggesting it might have only just been rung in. A simple apology or acknowledgment would’ve made a huge difference. Eventually, when all the food did arrive, we asked why the delay was so long (especially considering the restaurant was mostly empty, and several tables who came in later than us had already finished eating and billing out). Our server just said, “I don’t know, it seemed like you guys were doing fine out here.” Unfortunately, we came to eat — not just to hang out and wait over an hour for food with empty water glasses, which were never refilled once after we sat down. At the end, the only compensation offered was a discount voucher to be used on a future visit — but only at that specific location. Since we were visiting from out of the area and explained we wouldn’t be returning soon, we asked if it could be applied to our current bill or used elsewhere. The answer was a flat no. And again, no compensation was made for my friend who was soaked with a drink earlier in the evening. I understand that things can go wrong in any restaurant — it’s how those situations are handled that makes the difference. Sadly, this visit was a disappointing one, and none of us left feeling...
Read moreI came here a few weeks ago with a couple of girlfriends. We had just driven in from Hamilton and stopped for a quick bite before heading to the spa, all in great spirits.
Right off the bat, our server accidentally spilled water on one of my friends. Not a big deal — we’re servers ourselves and totally understand it happens! She was quick to help clean up and was very apologetic.
Our appetizers came out quickly and were absolutely delicious. After finishing, we stacked our plates to be cleared, but they sat on the table for quite a while. We also noticed it was taking a bit for our mains to arrive, and since we had somewhere to be, one of my friends went to check in with our server. She told us it wouldn’t be much longer.
About 16 more minutes passed, and another server noticed us looking around and asked if we needed anything. We let her know our food was taking a bit, and her response honestly shocked us. She said something like, “Well, it says 16 minutes on our screen, so…” in a pretty hostile tone. We hadn’t been rude or demanding — we were simply asking for an update.
Sometimes I forget to punch in food as well (which we assumed what happened because from the time we told her to the time the food came out it had lined up). As a server myself, I know that in this situation I would have kept the table informed and maybe even had a manager check in. Unfortunately, no one did. When the food finally arrived, it came in two separate waves about five minutes apart. We ate quickly and asked for boxes.
When we received our bills, the server returned with some coupons for a future visit, which was a kind gesture — though they were only valid at the Whitby location, not where we were located. We were also surprised that nothing was discounted considering my friend had water spilt on her.
All in all, it was a disappointing experience. The food was great and I really liked the restaurant, but the service made the visit feel frustrating and unwelcoming. It’s unfortunate, because I truly wanted to...
