Cucini Xpress — Restaurant in Whitby

Super disappointed with this place. It was our first time ordering and we had a clear communication about the amount of food we will receive for how many ppl. It said it was for 5 people. We got shrimp, eggplant , mutton, in small trays (typical small black round/rectangle container) salad 4 eggs instead of 5 all these were just enough for 3 people. The rice ratio did not match the curries at all. They asked to etransfer 55 dollars and give 100 dollars cash. So total is 155 We did the following but when my sister went to pick up they asked for 5 dollars extra and when she said its 100 dollars they said no its 105 dollars. Since my sister picked up the food she paid extra 5 and told me when she came home. I was surprised about the extra charge and When I msged the store they basically said it was a mistake and will etransfer. Did pass my info but they left me on “seen” after asking for it twice. Although its just 5 dollars (and Im wondering how many 5 dollars they charged by mistake) it’s frustrating that this entire order was not worth 155 for lack of flavour, very small quantity and left us to uber eats to order extra food for our guests on Christmas day while most of the stores were closed. Will not order from this place again. One positive from this order was the wattalampam and it was delicious. Other than that its not worth the money and the extra charges by “mistake”

REPLY TO THE OWNER!!!! No where in this review I mentioned that your portion is not enough for all of my guests (7 adults and 8kids nor did inquire to feed all of my guests with your 5 ppl menu). I clearly stated that it was mentioned for 5 and it was only enough for 3 and not 5 and the ratio for rice and the curries did not match . When inquiring ..It was a simple question (will this feed 7 adults which is usually what people do when ordering food to figure out if it’s enough or if we should order more (I did not inquire about kids I do have all the screenshots of the conversation to back it up 🙂 I did ask to purchase extra wattalampam cups for the kids and I paid for it) if you would like I can resent them to you since you seem to have forgotten or you can go ahead and reread our chat. I understand your social media is handled by many people but you were quick to reply to my inquiries until you received the entire money for the order. So its odd that you/your staff suddenly became very busy but also had time to open my msg twice and leave me on “seen”.The reason for me not to bring up the quantity not being enough its my choice. Once I received the food I was in shock looking at the quantity and was trying to order uber eats while my guests waiting and hearing you charged extra, it was a frustrating day. Im not sure if you understand how reviews work. So basically you order from business and based on your experience you leave a review. Im not jumping behind a keyboard and typing false information because of my freedom of speech. I am writing a honest review because I spend 155 dollars for food and I am completely dissatisfied. I highly doubt you will refund my money ( And its not my intention ) if I bring it up to you personally thats why we have a “review” system. I understand you are not satisfied with my review since its not in your favour but I am sorry this is my experience. And experience of customer can be good or bad and unfortunately mine is bad and now really bad based on your reply of accusing me being rude for writing a honest review. I am not sure if you saw the ending of my review about the wattalampam cups and I mentioned how delicious they were. Once again that was my honest opinion. These are not false accusations rather a review based on my experience. In future I highly recommend you speaking to the customer to see how you can improve if you receive such review. It's been a while since I've been to Cucini Xpress in Whitby. Their Sri Lankan cuisine is always so flavourful and delicious. You may even be surprised at some of the dishes that they offer.

This time around, we had their • Devil Chicken Fries • Seafood Nasi Goreng • Chicken Cheese Kothu Roti • Hot Buttered Cuttlefish • Chicken Curry Kothu Roti • Chicken Fried Rice • Chicken Fried Rice with Devil Chicken

Everything was very tasty, with generous portions. It's all freshly cooked to order and spice levels can be tailored to your personal preference.

This restaurant is takeout only but you can enjoy their delicious food via pickup or delivery. Check them out in the Whitby Entertainment Centrum.

Have you had Sri Lankan food? I have but it was nothing like this. The recently opened Cucini Xpress serves up some great tasting food, with a little (or a lot of) heat (if you desire).

Everything I tried was full of flavour, and delicious! Their food is well seasoned, with different levels of heat to suit your palette. I just never realized how much seafood is a part of this cuisine.

Lamprais is a dish I wasn't familiar with but it has many different components, including Chicken, Mutton, three types of Fish, Rice, and more! It was a sizable dish which I ate over three meals, making it a great value!

Other dishes I tried included a Pepper stuffed with Mackerel, a Roti dish with Chicken, Calamari, and their Loaded Jerk Chicken Fries. That jerk chicken was hot, I mean really HOT! It was also delicious and big enough to last me for two meals.

I am not sure what happened within a year. We used to order a lot but then lately we started noticing very bad taste (not what it used to be) also the quality is not upto the best. May be cheff changed or the management, I am not aware. We even ordered kothu rotti with extra meat and it was not there. One our favorite was hot butter Cuttlefish and we have had enough but the recent orders were like tasted more flour and no any flavors. It was a restaurant in Durham who had colombo style food taste and it’s fading now. I hope they will do something about it. ##2023 review##

The Chef if back in action. We ordered their famous sea food fried rice and prawns vadai. It was terrific. The taste is back. The owner also recognized and apologized for what happened in the previous order and he himself prepared a new mutton kothu and it tasted amazing. We ordered chicken fried rice and hot butter prawns. I have to say that the fried rice tasted exactly the same taste of a back home local bar/restaurant in Kotahena called “Five stars”. It was like going back in time. They keep giving good stuff. Thanks again.
