Kato Sushi — Restaurant in Whitchurch-Stouffville

Kato Sushi is truly an amazing gem!! Everything happens for a reason and zero regret with this place! Our intention was to go for all you can eat, however the AYCE restaurant failed to mention about making a reservation when I called an hour in advance. We had 3 hungry teens in the car and did not want to wait for an hour. Just happened we pulled up to Kato Sushi parking lot to decide where to go for sushi. With York being in the red zone (2021), they took the precaution to have take out only. My husband went into the restaurant to check out the menu and the lady behind the desk was so kind and pleasant. She took the time to explain their menu, the special for lunch and other options base on our interest. Only took them approx 15 mins to prep our order! The freshness of the food was rejuvenating, the melt in your mouth experience and the right consistency was to our satisfaction. Price and quantity was decent and the quality was TOP NOTCH!! After much anticipation, saw that this place finally opened! Sushi is always a favourite. Service was very, very friendly. Food was okay. We ordered the lobster roll, the white tataki roll, and the sashimi dinner bento box with teriyaki beef. The highlight was definitely the white tataki roll! Torched white tataki with spicy crab and salmon salad made a very nice burst of flavour. The lobster in the lobster roll (waitress mentioned they use baby lobsters) was deep fried so I couldn't get too much flavour from it. The bento box was average, though the beef was cooked medium rare, which is pretty uncommon as bento boxes go. It was very tender! It was weird they served the bento box with miso soup and salad as appetizer, but also included a secondary salad in the bento box. I'll be back to try some other interesting rolls!

Kato Sushi is hands down the best sushi spot in Stouffville! I ordered the shrimp tempura, maguro sashimi, unagi sushi, miso soup, and the white tatami roll, and everything was perfect. The shrimp tempura was crispy and tender inside, the sashimi and sushi were fresh and top quality, and the miso soup was rich and flavorful. The white tataki roll was a creative highlight that truly showcased their expertise.

It’s important to note that Kato Sushi is not an all-you-can-eat restaurant, and the quality here reflects that. Unlike many AYCE places, where sushi can be lower quality and sometimes misrepresented (like substituting tilapia for red snapper 😕 (government allows this 🤔)), Kato delivers authentic, high-quality dishes you can trust.
