I visited Bánh Mì Très Bon around 12:30 PM and left with mixed feelings.
Upon arrival, I stood waiting for about 4 minutes before being acknowledged. The server was just a few feet in front of me, behind the ordering machine, and didn’t notice me until I leaned in to get her attention. She seated me, brought a menu and water, and said she’d return to take my order—but it took another 10 minutes for her to come back. The restaurant was far from busy: one table with five guests, another with three, and one single diner.
The atmosphere is great—clean, modern, and well-maintained. The kitchen appeared organized and hygienic, and the washrooms were tidy.
I ordered the house special pho and beef wrap, requesting that both be brought out together. Unfortunately, the beef wrap arrived first after about 20 minutes, and the pho came more than 15 minutes later, despite my specific request. The beef wrap was decent—nothing spectacular—but the sauce portion was minimal. I was hungry and forgot to take pictures. My water glass was empty within five minutes of sitting down and was never refilled.
The pho arrived around 35 minutes after ordering, and while it was the wrong version (missing the bone marrow I had asked for), I chose not to raise an issue. That said—the pho was excellent. As someone very picky about pho, I can confidently say the broth was incredibly flavorful, rich, and aromatic. It reminded me of authentic pho back home in Vietnam. Deep flavor, clear broth, and that unmistakable comforting aroma—truly 5 stars for the pho.
Unfortunately, the Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk was a letdown. It lacked the bold, rich aroma and taste you’d expect. It tasted more like slightly sweetened milk than coffee—no depth, no fragrance, and barely any trace of actual coffee flavor. I usually prefer my coffee strong and bold, and while I understand every place has its own style, this just tasted like milky water. Easily one of the weakest Vietnamese coffees I’ve had.
One small side note: the tables are a bit high. At 5’8”, I found myself adjusting awkwardly while eating my pho, almost on tiptoe. Just a personal observation—not a deal-breaker.
Final thoughts: 4 stars overall. Food: 5 stars (especially the pho). Service and drinks: 3 stars. There’s great potential here, especially with the quality of the pho—but the slow service and disappointing coffee held the experience back. I’d still return for the pho, but I hope the service becomes more...
Read moreWe came by on a Sunday on the weekend after their opening. We had our dogs with us, and the patio wasn't open yet (no problem, we'll order take-out).
We ordered an order of spring rolls and two banh mi sandwiches. The server that took our order said that they had no other orders in the kitchen, so it shouldn't take long.
The spring rolls were ready in about 20 min but they only gave them to us after I went in to check if there were peanuts on anything we ordered (don't have a serious anaphylactic allergy), as I forgot when I ordered. One of the servers giggled and said, "There's peanuts on everything!!" and did not follow up with the kitchen. I had to flag down and ask the server that took my order to confirm with the kitchen. There was no peanuts on anything we ordered.
We took our spring rolls out to eat while we waited for our banh mi's, and they were delicious, made with rice paper, and not with wonton wrappers. It's hard to justify $12.00 for two spring rolls, though. I think $6.00/spring roll is expensive.
After this, we had to wait another 15 minutes longer until they brought out only one banh mi. They said the other was on the way. It came about 10 minutes later. We stood outside for 45 minutes. I thought the kitchen didn't have any other orders? When we inquired with the server, she said that it took a while because all the kitchen staff had gone for break and were making their own meals?? We asked the server if the owner was willing to do anything for the extra wait and because we wished we would've just canceled the order. She said no. We spent almost $50 to eat this takeout, and didn't enjoy it due to this situation.
The banh mi were good. The grilled pork was scarce. One or two thin slices of pork. Bread was amazing! Wrapping/packaging is a bit unnecessary and annoying. (Too much paper and twine)
I was very excited for a new restaurant in our city. Maybe things will get better over time. Unfortunately, at the current value and after this service experience, I will continue to go to one of the other 4 vietnamese restaurants in the South Surrey/White Rock...

Bánh Mì Très Bon is an absolute gem of a Vietnamese restaurant! My dining experience here was nothing short of exceptional, and I couldn't wait to share my five-star review.
From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that set the perfect tone for our meal. The modern decor and attention to detail in the restaurant's design created an atmosphere that was both trendy and cozy.
Now, let's talk about the food. We had the pleasure of indulging in the PHỞ TÁI BÒ VIÊN and the GRILLED BEEF SALAD ROLLS, and they were nothing short of sublime. The PHỞ TÁI BÒ VIÊN was a bowl of steaming, aromatic broth that was rich and flavorful, with tender slices of beef and perfectly cooked rice noodles. The depth of flavor in the broth was truly impressive and had me savoring every spoonful. It's evident that the chefs here take great pride in their craft.
The GRILLED BEEF SALAD ROLLS were a delightful surprise. Fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavors, these rolls were a perfect balance of textures and tastes. The grilled beef was tender and had a delicious smokiness, and when paired with the crisp, fresh vegetables and the dipping sauce, it was an explosion of taste in every bite.
The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive, friendly, and more than willing to offer suggestions and answer any questions we had about the menu. Their passion for the cuisine was evident and added to the overall enjoyment of our dining experience.
Bánh Mì Très Bon has truly mastered the art of serving authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a modern twist. If you're a fan of Vietnamese food or even if you're just looking to try something new and delicious, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this restaurant a try. It's a hidden culinary gem that deserves all the praise it can get. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu. Kudos to the entire team at Bánh Mì Très Bon for providing such a memorable dining...
