We moved to the White Rock area about 7 months ago and kept passing by this spot on Pacific Ave, always saying, “We’ve got to stop in one day.” Well, we finally did—and I’m so glad we did!
The place isn’t exactly hidden, but it definitely feels like a local gem. Drinks (coffee, teas, and more) are priced reasonably, which is refreshing. My family and I ordered a few drinks and desserts to share. I got their drink of the month—a cold lavender drink—and wow, it was lovely. Imagine a creamy, whipped topping over a smooth, purple drink that tastes just as good as it looks.
I only had a few bites of the desserts, but the blueberry bar stood out to me. I’m not sure that’s its official name, but it was soft with a satisfying crunch—so good. My daughter tried the crumble cake during our visit. I didn’t get a taste at the time, but she must’ve loved it because she went back after church on Sunday to get another one for herself!
The atmosphere here is fantastic—spacious, cozy, and filled with cool little touches in the decor. There’s plenty of seating both inside and outside, which is perfect for hanging out or catching up with friends. I also appreciated that they had a gluten-free dessert option, which is great for anyone who avoids gluten for dietary reasons.
If you're in the area or just visiting White Rock, this place is definitely...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of Laura’s for years.I used to come in 3 or 4 times a week with a coffee group, now it’s one at best. The prices were increased after Laura Cornale sold, but the food was still great, so I didn’t mind. The last few months, the staff are hit and miss. Some are still polite and genuinely happy to see you, but others are often snarky at times, which was never the norm. The last few times I have ordered my breakfast bagel, it is now being served with potato chips. Potato chips are not a breakfast food. Lunch? For sure go with the chips, but not when you’re used to getting fresh fruit. Even hash browns would be better. I get that some people don’t eat the fruit or garnish, but all the staff have to do is ask your preference at time of order, or allow your online order system to let you choose before pick up. I mean no disrespect with this review, which is why I gave 3 stars, new owners need to accept there is room for improvement. I almost didn’t write this review, as I saw the owners previous response to somebody else that raised concerns, was met with a little hostility. Just constructive criticism, not an attack. I hope you see it that way, as I would like to keep...
Read moreThis is a nice looking café where you stand up at the counter and order and pay. Then you find a table to sit at if you eat in.
Since this is not a restaurant, they do not make sure the table is clean and prepared for you, they do not bring you water and make sure to refill it or speak to you to attend to you like that. They at least didn’t do any of that for me.
The table I sat at was dirty, still with crumbs and food bits from other meals.
I ordered a sandwich, and it was nicely presented on the plate and it seemed like real food, but it's just a small or normal sized sandwich and I was still hungry after eating it. I also got a small black coffee. That sandwich and coffee came to $19.40 after tax (before tip, but since this is not a restaurant a tip is not required). Other sandwiches are more money - this could have been around $22.
So, I think this place is suitable for special occasions, or perhaps retired people with disposable income who don’t mind paying more for location and environment, or wealthy foreigners who think $20 for half a meal is cheap.
But for a regular Joe like me who wants a sandwich and coffee at lunch time, it’s...
