A&W Canada — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Was at the polo park location tonight at 9:15pm when I walked up to the doors to find them locked, I tried the side where they were also locked. I could not see any staff inside however I did see two customers sitting and eating. I read the sign posted saying it was open till 10pm.while I was standing there a delivery person had walked up beside me he too was confused as to why it was locked we banged on the window to get the attention of the staff we seen in the kitchen. A female made a motion from behind the till area with her hands myself and the delivery person went to the side entrance, let him know that that one was also locked. Once we got there the female who did not leave from behind the counter made another motion with hands the delivery driver was confused as was I both knowing there is no other entrance . finally the female came to the side door opened it only to tell us that the inside is closed and they are only drive-thru. I let her know it's only 9:15 you have two customer sitting inside still and your sign States your dining room specifically is open until 10:00 p.m. and I'd like to come in and make an order . she tells me I can through the drive-thru window. And again I inform her that her sign states that they are open until 10:00 p.m. she looked at me said "yeah no something happened go to the drive-thru." She was rude and snippy and due to her fumbling of her response and the other customers inside still sitting i know the staff was telling us a lie. When I refused and said no I would like to come in and place my order as it was -30 out I am not going to place myself In Harm's Way by standing in an area that is literally called a drive-thru. I did ask for management /contact information or customer service information and female staff member told me she doesn't know close the door locked it and walked away . This is absolutely unbelievable if your staff does not know how to do their job or simply just doesn't want to find somebody better or train them.This staff had absolutely no right being left unattended if she is not capable to grasp the concept of what her job is and perform her duties.Also like to note that I was on the phone at the time and the person I was on with also tried to phone the store directly and that phone call was not picked. Ordered online to have it brought to the car. Its a great idea during covid times, but don’t expect to use coupons. Oh well its not an expensive restaurant and the food is always great at a&w - just not yesterday 😕. The onion rings were flat & falling apart and soggy. The sweet potato fries were also lukewarm and soggy. My chicken burger was dry and lukewarm. Its not possible it had been cooked in the last half hour. Ordered 3 regular fries and not even one package of ketchup in the bag. Ordered 4 burgers and not one of them was labeled so we couldn’t figure out which was who’s. One burger was ordered without cheese & bacon for dietary restrictions, however the special order was completely ignored. Should really have taken the order back to get our $60 back but we stopped in on our way to the airport and had a plane to catch. Very disappointing 😟. had a tiny issue with my order and I called in to see if there was anything we could do to fix it and let me tell you there are two specific people who know what customer service is! I'm not sure who I spoke to on the phone the first time but they were awesome enough to let me come grab a refund for the inconvenience!

Then when I got there, I spoke to Sandy and she was amazing!!! this girl needs a raise for knowing exactly how to treat her customers!!!. Thank you so much for being so patient with me. (I do not like to call and complain about anything but I felt bad because there may have been a language barrier between my family and the drive thru worker).

Anyway, the staff is awesome there and need more praise. it may not seem like a big deal but I have definitely dealt with my fair share of a-holes but they made it extremely easy to deal with!...
