A&W Canada — Restaurant in Winnipeg

After driving around and finding a location that was open later (11pm) after my friend had just had the worst day ever and having to put her dog down we arrived at 10:30 be dry hungry. We thought it was reasonable as it doesn’t take long to get fast food and eat it. We were turned away, the woman said that their grill was turned off/shut down. We stayed the website said they’re open until 11pm. She then reluctantly agreed to make us food. It took forever (10-15 minutes) and it was barely warm. The onion rings were in a big clump and some of the batter wasn’t cooked. We were starving so we ate most of the food and if it wasn’t almost closing and we were in a different circumstance we would have got them to make it fresh. The ketchup that was thrown into the bag was a ball stuck together by some sort of sticky glue like stuff. I’ve been to a&w a fair amount, different locations and never had any issues and always was a good experience but this was absolutely terrible. To add injury to insult the woman working was giving us dirty looks after we ordered. As well another employee at the gas station there came and told us they close at 11 when it was 11:01 which was the second gas station employee that came and told us this. Just an awful experience. This location is poorly managed. Yesterday we placed an order via drive thru. A teen burger, 3 double buddy burgers plain, only ketchup. Onion rings, french fries, two drinks. We were given 3 drinks for some reason and told it would be over 10 minutes for our food, so we came inside to wait. Tables inside were dirty. Received our food and instantly noticed they were all single buddy burgers not double like we paid for. The fries were a very small quantity too. I received 3 new patties in a box, then I opened my buddy burgers up to add the patties and discovered all of them had raw red meat as they were each cooked rare. The buns soaked up so much juices. I showed her the raw meat and she said they were all cooked under a timer. I waited and got 3 brand new double buddy burgers. Sadly she was the only person working. Bouncing from till, drivethru, and cooking food. Handling everything in between. I fully expect my immune system will be in overdrive battling all the cross contamination germs that we just picked up. This place should of been shut down however this is the normal at this gas station location. This isn’t the first time having experienced this scenario. Went thru last week. Time was 10:45 pm. Sat at order speaker and no response. Waited 10 minutes and no response. Drove up to window and could clearly see staff member. Honked my horn multiple times. No acknowledgment. Went around to front and tried to open the door. No such luck. A voice directed me to the sliding window. I asked about an order. Person said drive thru closed at 11. I replied I was at the drive thru speaker at 10:45. Her reply was “sorry, he is now cashing out”. Tonight, drive up to the drive thru speaker at 8:30. Placed my order and was told to speak up. Did not understand. Was literally yelling until I finally gave up and drove up to the window. Gave the attendant my order for a papa cheeseburger and onion rings along with a root beer. Was told that I couldn’t get onion rings as they didn’t have only fries. I then said ok skip the onion ri ngs and just a root beer with the burger. Response was fountain drink machine not working.
