Title: A Culinary Delight for Hyderabadi's and Rumali Roti Lovers
Review: "All Hyderabadi's & Rumali Roti Lovers, out of all the restaurants in Winnipeg, only The Chilli Chutney has mastered the art of creating delectable Rumali Roti paired with flavorful Chicken 65, leaving you thoroughly satisfied."
The Chilli Chutney restaurant truly impressed me with its impeccable hospitality, especially our waitress, Seema. From the moment we stepped in, she greeted us warmly and made us feel instantly welcomed. Seema's knowledge of the menu was commendable as she patiently walked us through the various dishes and readily addressed any queries we had. Her attentive service throughout the meal was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction.
Now, let's talk about the food. Every dish we ordered was an authentic explosion of flavors, highlighting the culinary mastery of The Chilli Chutney's chefs. Allow me to share my experience with each dish:
Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani: The Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani at The Chilli Chutney is an absolute delight. The fragrant basmati rice was perfectly cooked and delicately spiced, with tender pieces of chicken nestled within. Each mouthful was a symphony of aromatic spices, leaving a lasting impression.
Goan Prawns: The Goan Prawns dish was a true delight for seafood enthusiasts. The prawns were impeccably cooked, retaining their natural sweetness, and were bathed in a rich and tangy Goan-style sauce. The harmonious blend of spices and the freshness of the prawns created a memorable culinary experience.
Pani Puri: The Pani Puri at The Chilli Chutney took me back to the bustling streets of India. The crispy puris were filled with a delightful mixture of spiced potatoes and chickpeas, while the tangy and spicy mint water added an invigorating burst of flavors. It was an authentic and refreshing appetizer that left me craving for more.
Lacha Paratha: The Lacha Paratha, with its flaky layers and buttery texture, was a perfect accompaniment to the main course. It was skillfully prepared and arrived at our table piping hot. Each bite was a delightful combination of crispiness and softness, adding a comforting element to the meal.
Rumali Roti: Ah, the Rumali Roti, the star attraction for all Rumali Roti lovers! The Chilli Chutney deserves praise for their mastery in creating this thin, paper-like bread. It was flawlessly prepared and paired wonderfully with the Chicken 65. The soft and chewy texture of the roti, combined with the flavorful chicken, was a match made in culinary heaven.
Tandoori Chicken: The Tandoori Chicken at The Chilli Chutney showcased their expertise in traditional Indian tandoor cooking. The succulent pieces of chicken were marinated to perfection, resulting in tender and juicy meat with a tantalizing smoky flavor. It was a true carnivorous delight.
In conclusion, The Chilli Chutney stands out among Winnipeg's dining establishments, particularly for its exceptional Rumali Roti and Chicken 65. Seema, our waitress, provided impeccable service, making our dining experience all the more enjoyable. If you are a Hyderabadi cuisine enthusiast or a Rumali Roti lover, this restaurant is a must-visit. Prepare yourself for an authentic and flavorful journey through the vibrant culinary...
Read moreNestled in Winnipeg’s vibrant culinary landscape, The Chilli Chutney Street Kitchen impresses with its expansive footprint, offering both buffet and à la carte options—a rarity that caters to both the indecisive and the discerning diner. On our recent visit, we opted for the à la carte experience, seeking a more tailored culinary journey.
Our party of four adults and two children was accommodated at a table with plush sofa seating. While the table’s surface area was adequate for the generous spread, the spatial gap between the sofa and the table was noticeably cramped, slightly compromising comfort. That said, these minor ergonomic shortcomings were immediately eclipsed by the exemplary service extended by our hostess, Sarjan. Her warmth, professionalism, and attentiveness were emblematic of hospitality done right.
Service was impressively swift. Appetisers and mains arrived without delay, which is especially appreciated when dining with children. The food, overall, was flavourful and authentic. However, the vegetable curry, though aromatic and robust in taste, arrived noticeably oily, despite our specific request for a lighter hand on the oil. Such deviations, while minor, do stand out when preferences are clearly communicated.
Similarly, the laacha paratha, a staple often taken for granted, initially arrived undercooked. Yet, the staff’s gracious and efficient response to our feedback—replacing it without hesitation or resistance—was commendable and reinforced the restaurant’s commitment to guest satisfaction.
The meal concluded on a high note with a delightful array of desserts, each executed with finesse. The chai, too, was a standout—rich, spiced, and comforting, providing the perfect denouement to the meal.
Despite the few missteps in execution, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive, buoyed by heartfelt service and a menu that blends tradition with approachability. The Chilli Chutney Street Kitchen is a worthwhile destination for anyone craving Indian fare in a convivial, family-friendly atmosphere.

Read moreMy family and I have been going here since it opened. It was great when we first started to come, but we have seen Chill Chutney massively decline in quality.
I was there yesterday with my son for lunch around 1245. We had the buffet. It was ok, I had the butter chicken and rice like I always do. It was almost empty, but that was ok.
About 2 servings into my plate, I found a 2 foot long black hair in my food.
I put my plate aside and didn't touch it and went to see what else was there, the buffet was totally empty of the butter chicken at this point and they did not have any other chicken dishes available, so I didn't get anything else.
I was hoping they would have refilled the tray, but they did not.
When the server came aby about 15 mins later (my son was done eating and was full), I showed her the black hair and told her I couldn't eat anything else. She said i should have told her, but I did the next time she came to the table about 15 to 20 mins later and never saw her until then.
She apologized, but my son was done lunch, and i was not hungry after that. I used to work in restaurants and bars as a waiter or bartender when I was young and in university, so I know you need to wear a hairnet if you are making food.
I guess this does not apply here.
I am not sure how sanitary this place is now.
I went to pay, and they did not bother to do anything about the meal being contaminated, offer to get the manager or comp one of the meals (not that I was looking for that but as a waiter when inwas one, I would have done that for sure), and the fact that i didn't eat anything there because they never bothered to fill the butter chicken tray the entire time we were there.
I didn't eat as there was nothing else there i was interested in and super turned off at that point by the massive long and greasy black hair in my food.
I don't think we will ever be going back due to the decline in everything there. And we used to go all the time and bring out of town...
