It is always a struggle to rate fast food. I try to avoid them as much as possible, I'm already overweight and really should not be eating hamburgers. But my wife and I were interested by the new A&W veggie burger. Since we had a coupon and we're going out anyway we decided to try a little scientific comparison.

We got 1 each of a mama burger, a veggie burger, fries and onion rings. We both had Root Beer to drink.

Despite their irritating ads, I still think they have the best Root beer and the teen burger is still the best generic style burger you can get. But we wanted to compare apples to apples, so we figured the Mama burger was the closest in size, condiments and general content. We split every thing and compared the two burgers for taste, mouth feel, consistency, looks and general effect. I must say that I am pleasantly impressed. The burger lives up to its hype. It was different in the side by side with a meat patty but not "oh it's a veggie", just slightly different. Pleasant flavour, good texture, and all in all a really nice burger. It went well with either fries or onion rings (well, of course I guess) and I would cheerfully chow down on another one if it were a bit cheaper. I also have not checked the fat, sodium, trans etc content which will have an effect on how often I would even consider eating them, but a really nice treat that you can take your non-meat eating friends to
