I ultimately gave this a 5 star, but there's caveats. I haven't been back there for awhile, so this is based on my most recent experience. Skip the sashimi and sushi pizza. The sashimi is ok, but it's pretty standard fish that you get with nothing really unique. The price for Sabi Sashimi is $45, and we received 17 pieces. The presentation is fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. The sushi pizza is filling, but there are much better things to order. The black garlic scallops, at $24 is pricey but they are jumbo scallops and taste fantastic. The marriage of black garlic and red grapefruit is beautiful. Its a high class dish. The veggie tortilla ($15) was surprisingly good. Our server had recommended it saying it was beautiful, but it tasted equally fantastic. I'm not a huge veggie person myself, but this was done very well. Those two dishes would be the ones I would go back for. If anything I think I would crave the veggie tortilla which I was not expecting. The soft shell crab salad ($20) had a very good salad component. The soft shell part was ok. It wasn't hot when we got it (it might have been meant to be served cold), but I felt that detracted. I ordered the lychee tea, which was nice for a change, as most Japanese restaurants just stock green tea (Sencha, bancha, etc) or genmai cha (The roasted rice tea). Service was very good. As I used to work in this field, I only found fault when they served the sashimi without explaining what each pieces was. I personally don't need it explained, but I feel like it should be a standard thing the server does (or at least ask whether we want it explained). They were very good with keeping our drinks topped up and with assisting us in making food choices.

One of my favourite restaurants in Winnipeg. My partner and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary over the weekend at wasabi. We had a reservation and we were seated fairly quickly. The dining room and lounge have a very comforting modern feel. You can even sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs do their magic! Once we arrived to our table, we went over the menu and ordered some of our favourites as well as some of the servers recommendations. We ordered the honey plum tuna, salmon carpaccio, truffle broccoli, mango prawns, as well as a couple sushi rolls. The plates are smaller portions. “Tapas like” Our plates arrived one after another. From the presentation to the flavours of each plate. Everything was superb. The honey plum tuna was the star for me. The tuna melted in your mouth and the sauce underneath accompanied the tuna perfectly. The two sushi rolls we ordered (crazy 88 and dynamite) were very fresh and tasty. Overall, the experience was great. The food is on the $$$$ pricer side, but the quality, service and ambiance is worth it! We look forward to coming back soon!

The environment and the decor are great. However, I still give two to this place. We have seen so many sashimi photo in google reviews to show the thickness of sashimi. We have that kind of expectation of the thickness, so we ordered 12 pieces of king salmon taro, 84 dollars in total. However, it was extremely thin shown in the first photo! If you expect the same thickness in the google reviews, you will be absolutely disappointed! The second thing was we had a fish bone in our order, which stung my friend’s gum. The restaurant gave us 3 extra sashimi pieces as a complimentary, apologized from a person in kitchen and the server, and the sashimi had been waived from our bill, but the experience was unpleasant. The last thing was I had a serious diarrhea at night, no kidding. The taste of the chef’s roll is refreshing, and the carrie roll is thick. I will recommend these two kinds of rolls based on the taste.

Food always good, went for Happy Hour, beware of the bill, me and my friend split the bill, we ordered 3sake for Happy Hour, the whole service wasn't pleasant, we have to ask other servers for help as our waitress didn't really check on us. When we were leaving, we told the waitress we ordered 3 sake for HH, she was unwilling to help us. I never felt so mistreated. From HH 3 X $10 , we only ordered 2 regular price 2x$20 . We end up paid 1 X $10 , 4 X $20. It's not even the money, it's the attitude that the waitress didn't remember our order and unwilling to look into it, stood there just made us pay. Make sure you settle your bill by Happy Hour before continue staying for regular price menu.

My fiancé and I come back time and time again. We love the Wagyu Nigiri and their chicken skewers they call "kushi yaku." We love that the rolls are made fresh for every order and they are so accommodating about rolls that aren't on the menu (as long as they have the ingredients). The tempura is also one of the best we've enjoyed, not oily at all. Dinner bills can go up in price very quickly but they have a very reasonable lunch menu from 11:00 to 3pm and happy hour from 3:00pm to 5:30pm.

This Japanese restaurant is fantastic! The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and I highly recommend trying the chef’s special rolls. While they are a bit pricier than the others, the flavor is outstanding, with more complex layers. The service is excellent—staff are polite, professional, and attentive without being overly intrusive. The overall atmosphere is elegant and the ambiance very pleasant. Highly recommend, and I will definitely be returning with my family!
