I ultimately gave this a 5 star, but there's caveats. I haven't been back there for awhile, so this is based on my most recent experience. Skip the sashimi and sushi pizza. The sashimi is ok, but it's pretty standard fish that you get with nothing really unique. The price for Sabi Sashimi is $45, and we received 17 pieces. The presentation is fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. The sushi pizza is filling, but there are much better things to order.

The black garlic scallops, at $24 is pricey but they are jumbo scallops and taste fantastic. The marriage of black garlic and red grapefruit is beautiful. Its a high class dish. The veggie tortilla ($15) was surprisingly good. Our server had recommended it saying it was beautiful, but it tasted equally fantastic. I'm not a huge veggie person myself, but this was done very well. Those two dishes would be the ones I would go back for. If anything I think I would crave the veggie tortilla which I was not expecting. The soft shell crab salad ($20) had a very good salad component. The soft shell part was ok. It wasn't hot when we got it (it might have been meant to be served cold), but I felt that detracted. I ordered the lychee tea, which was nice for a change, as most Japanese restaurants just stock green tea (Sencha, bancha, etc) or genmai cha (The roasted rice tea). Service was very good. As I used to work in this field, I only found fault when they served the sashimi without explaining what each pieces was. I personally don't need it explained, but I feel like it should be a standard thing the server does (or at least ask whether we want it explained). They were very good with keeping our drinks topped up and with assisting us in making...

Love sushi and heard great reviews of Wasabi on Taylor. Came 1 month ago and ordered nigiri as well ad a volcano roll. Took over 60 minutes for them to bring the food out. We complained 3 different occasions and were told each time it would only be 5 more minutes. By the time the volcano roll came out it was soggy and cold, obviously was sitting waiting to be served for a while. Asked the server why it took so long (it was dead, there were maybe 3 other tables being served within the hour we were there) and mentioned the soggy cold volcano roll, server said sorry.

Decided to try Wasabi one nore time today. Arrived to the front where no one was available to let is in. We waited about 5 minutes till I finally walked through the waiting area into the lounge, no server or staff could be found however there were 5 chefs waiting in the kitchen standing around leaning against walls clearly with nothing to do. I walked around the entire lounge and back through the restraunt back to the front where my wife was. Just as we decided to just leave a server came running to the front and said sorry. She took us to a table infront of the open kitchen area where she sat us and gave us menues.

We sat at the table for about 10 minutes with no service. 4 chefs stood still leaning against the wall doing nothing while another 5th chef prepared food for another table (there were only 3 tables at the time). After 10 minutes we just got up and left the restraunt.

We are done with this place, hope ithers have a...

I wish I could right a good review. The food was great but it was a important social event with a complete service failure. We had 3 people. We had one vegan and usually at a sushi place that is no issue. But when we identified to the server we had a vegan, she was confused and was not sure they had anything (any veggie role would do, just no mayo). When we got that figured out and ordered the one role she identified and a bunch of normal sushi for the other 2. And hour and 10 minutes later the 2 non vegans were done and her role had not even arrived yet. When we asked after being told nothing we were told they "kept making a mistake". So it arrived and she ate alone. Our server then came back and asked if we wanted anything else... We said no... And she left and never brought the bill. We sat there for 20 more minutes (near close and restaurant almost empty) and finally just went to the front to pay. Out bill was substantial as expected but we were surprised that the roll that was an hour late was still on the bill. We brought it to the servers attention and she again they apologized..and then looked at us and passed us the debit machine where the first choice was 18 percent tip. Needless to say we changed that. Again the food was fine but it was a complete service failure with no reasonable effort to even try...

One of my favourite restaurants in Winnipeg. My partner and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary over the weekend at wasabi. We had a reservation and we were seated fairly quickly. The dining room and lounge have a very comforting modern feel. You can even sit at the sushi bar and watch the chefs do their magic! Once we arrived to our table, we went over the menu and ordered some of our favourites as well as some of the servers recommendations. We ordered the honey plum tuna, salmon carpaccio, truffle broccoli, mango prawns, as well as a couple sushi rolls. The plates are smaller portions. “Tapas like” Our plates arrived one after another. From the presentation to the flavours of each plate. Everything was superb. The honey plum tuna was the star for me. The tuna melted in your mouth and the sauce underneath accompanied the tuna perfectly. The two sushi rolls we ordered (crazy 88 and dynamite) were very fresh and tasty. Overall, the experience was great. The food is on the $$$$ pricer side, but the quality, service and ambiance is worth it! We look forward to coming back soon!

The environment and the decor are great. However, I still give two to this place. We have seen so many sashimi photo in google reviews to show the thickness of sashimi. We have that kind of expectation of the thickness, so we ordered 12 pieces of king salmon taro, 84 dollars in total. However, it was extremely thin shown in the first photo! If you expect the same thickness in the google reviews, you will be absolutely disappointed! The second thing was we had a fish bone in our order, which stung my friend’s gum. The restaurant gave us 3 extra sashimi pieces as a complimentary, apologized from a person in kitchen and the server, and the sashimi had been waived from our bill, but the experience was unpleasant. The last thing was I had a serious diarrhea at night, no kidding. The taste of the chef’s roll is refreshing, and the carrie roll is thick. I will recommend these two kinds of rolls based on the taste.
