I've been here several times and as much as I want to recommend it, I just can't.
Every time I've come in, I've seen servers make multiple trips to tables to bring things like coffee or water while ignoring people who sat down 5-10mins prior. eg: instead of bringing one table four waters on a platter that can hold a dozen and making a second trip for a new table, bring extras and drop them off at the new table to acknowledge their presence. Likewise, instead of pouring coffees from a carafe and loading up a heavy platter then making a second trip with a carafe for refills, bring the cups and a carafe to the table then do refills on the way back.
Little things like that compound to make the service here genuinely slow and feel even slower, even though the servers are clearly hustling.
On top of that, the place is all hard surfaces with nothing to break up the noise, whether from the kitchen or the customers, so it's very noisy even when there's only a few tables occupied. If you're hoping to come here to work or study, the noise cancelling headphones are absolutely mandatory even at off-peak times. I came here once during peak hours. It was utterly impossible to have a conversation without shouting between the bakery traffic, the kitchen noise, and parties at every table. I left with a headache and my ears ringing.
It's disappointing because there are very few places like this in East K, the food is pretty good, and the servers are friendly. Between how slow it is and how noisy it is though, I don't think I...
Read moreI live close to this bakery so I thought I would check it out with a friend. The waitress was not friendly at all… Almost seemed like she disliked her job. She brought my friend her water with lemon and forgot mine. Seemed annoyed at me when I asked for it the second time. Both came with no ice, just water with two thin slices of lemon. It took an hour and five minutes before we got our food. My friend finally went to the counter to inquire on the delay and it came about five minutes later. The chicken cheddar melts had a minimal amount of chicken, had a weird taste and was cold. Every chuck of romaine lettuce in my Caesar salad had brown edges (not very appealing), came with no wedge of lemon, was dry and not very tasty and the coffee was mediocre. The portions were not the biggest for what they charge. I ate only half of what was on my plate… It was that bad. The noise level was deafening and not one bit relaxing. Unfortunately, it’s not an establishment that I will be returning to. Very disappointed with the overall experience. I had gone there once previous shortly after they opened to get a couple of desserts… Again, found it to be overrated… The desserts were expensive and dry. Not sure what the hype is...
Read moreMy wife and I have been here three times now, twice for breakfast and most recently for lunch. All three visits have been excellent! The Cottage Breakfast is excellent as was the Eggs Benedict my wife ordered. However, lunch was where we were really impressed. I ordered the Cottage Burger which comes with a rasberry bacon jam with a garlic aioli, lettuce, white cheese and bacon. Positively incredible! My go-to burger from now on. Just as remarkable are their fries. Fresh cut, not frozen, but lightly salted. My wife tried the egg salad sandwich which she thoroughly enjoyed. But at the same time I had to fight her off from my fries! This location is also a bakery and their desserts are to die for! My wife and I walked out with 12 butter tarts, a piece of date cake, chocolate brownie cheesecake and Tiramisu tart. Still full from lunch, so we just sampled the desserts when we got home. We
ll keep some for dinner dessert, if they last that long! We
ll definately be going back again and again! The restaurant is light, not dark and gloomy as so many are now. No loud music, we were able to talk to and hear each other, something which so many restaurants could learn a lesson from. Will undoubtedly be... Read more
