My friends and I took a special guest who was visiting from Mexico to sushi daruma. It was all of our first time going. The restaurant had been highly recommended by another friend of mine. While the food was really good, the service was not there. We were given individual menus that you mark down what you’re ordering, sort of like an all you can eat place. Half of our table put in their order and got their food in a timely manner. My boyfriend and I put ours in maybe 20 minutes after, mainly because the servers didn’t have time to come back. They were busy. We had to ask for soya sauce, and they never brought dishes to pour our sauce into, so we just used plates from the appetizers. I’ve never had that happen in a sushi restaurant before lol. Took the server a while come back with glasses for our beverages, which not the biggest deal but the worst was that they just completely forgot to make me and my boyfriends order. It was about an hour and a half into us being there, our friends are finished eating, tables who had come after us were being served second rounds of sushi, when we finally asked where our food was. We were being patient, they looked busy. I had gotten miso soup and my boyfriend had nothing but a couple of beers. I asked the server, she went and spoke to the kitchen, which we were sitting directly across from, and they denied they forgot. They insisted they had brought out everything we had ordered. I started to recall our order to the server and magically they found our order and started to prepare it. 30 mins before they close, after everyone’s eaten, full, wanting the cheque and we still hadn’t eaten. At that point my appetite was ruined because I was so upset. None of the chefs or a manager came to speak with us or to apologize. It felt like one of the servers was uncomfortable and didn’t want to deal with us. There was one very nice server, and they comped our drinks but we still paid $100 for this unpleasant experience. Washroom was also gross. Leaking sink and a duct taped toilet...
Read moreI recently dined at Sushi Daruma and had a rather mixed experience. While the food was undeniably delicious, the service left much to be desired, warranting a two-star rating.
Let’s start with the positives. The culinary delights at Sushi Daruma are definitely worth a mention. Their sushi offerings were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From delicate sashimi to creative rolls, the taste was on point, making it clear that their chefs possess remarkable skills in crafting delightful Japanese cuisine.
However, when it comes to service, I was left disappointed. Despite three dedicated staff members managing takeout orders, the attention to dine-in customers was noticeably lacking. It felt as if we were invisible, as they completely ignored our needs. This lack of attentiveness greatly impacted our overall experience and left a sour taste in our mouths.
To add to the frustration, several items were missing from our order. This oversight was disappointing and showed a lack of attention to detail. When we brought it to the staff’s attention, their response was slow and somewhat indifferent, further dampening our dining experience.
Based on this visit, I must admit that I’m hesitant to return for dine-in service. While the food is undoubtedly fantastic, the lackluster service and missing items were significant drawbacks. Perhaps Sushi Daruma may excel in their takeout operations, but for those seeking an enjoyable dine-in experience, it fell short of expectations.
In conclusion, Sushi Daruma’s food quality earns them points, but their service and attention to dine-in customers need improvement. If you’re willing to overlook subpar service and focus solely on the food, you might find some satisfaction. However, for a well-rounded dining experience, I would personally explore other options before considering a...
Read moreI had called at 6 pm yesterday to place an order for their seasonal platter for pickup. After we settled the total and information on the phone, the lady was explaining that platters normally take longer to make, which is fine. She put me on hold to ask the chefs how long a platter would take and then came back to tell me that it was too late to order the platter. I was disappointed and a bit shocked that they’d turn away our order at 6 p.m. when they close at 8. Maybe they were busy with orders for the night, not even quite sure. But she also didn't ask me after if I wanted to order something else. This was also disappointing. A suggestion would be to maybe put a disclosure on your site/Instagram, that if people plan to order a platter, to call way ahead of closing time (even though I think 2 hours is still enough time). You offer a lot of platters on your site. 6 p.m. is still dinner time for many people. Even if it took an hour+ for that order, that should be up to the customer if they want to wait that long. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time...or shall I call at opening for an...
