I've reviewed Five Guys several times before, but always for eateries in the United States. This was my first "international" Five Guys in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). Just as delicious as anywhere else. And what makes Five Guys almost always "5 Stars" is the ability to dress the burger however you want, seemingly with unlimited toppings if you're that kind of burger devourer. And of course, they always give you basically double the amount of fries you order. This time we got the "little" size which was a tiny cup. But with at least an additional "regular size" amount of fries in the bag the order was packed in.
Only complaint: The peanuts were difficult to find. Normally they are near the entrance where you place your order. I needed to hunt them down (they were where you pickup your order).
Only weirdness: In almost every Five Guys in the USA, there's at least one poster on the wall stating how great the place is in the location (city or state) that particular franchise is in. I'm in Canada and there were posters all from the USA: Washington DC, Florida, New York, etc. Nothing from anywhere in Canada.
But that won't stop me from giving this one 5...
Read moreOutstanding service time and delicious burgers. The quality of the fries and burgers are always top-notch when I visit. It's difficult to think about ways they can improve but I did have a couple of minor things.
In the winter, it might be wise to clean the floors more often with frequency being dependent on the volume of customers. The floor was a bit dusty - as was expected of any floor in a Winnipeg Winter where customers walk in with snowy/sandy/muddy boots.
All of the staff were busy doing what they do best- that is, cooking delicious meals. I hope my criticism doesn't outweigh my commendation for the wonderful service at this location. I also commend management for the subtle things like putting a sign up by the peanut box urging people not to take peanuts outside of the restaurant for the sake of protecting the public where people might have peanut allergies.
Small things like that make a huge difference. I can tell that Five Guys cares about its customers. Just stating the obvious.
5/5 - Great service, great food, great staff. Go there...
Read moreI'll go ahead and mention portion sizing first. I expected bigger. I didn't expect their Little Cheeseburger to be the size of a quarter pounder with a bit extra. Be warned, unless you're hungry, get the little and small sizes of everything.
That said! This was a cute little place, with a patio outside and some tables indoors, all socially distanced. The staff was friendly, food was delicious, and prepared quickly.
Their social distancing leaves a bit to be expected. The X's on the floor can be confusing, as when we were ordering, a woman and her daughter came up right behind us. Granted, they were on the x, but it felt very close. The restaurant doesn't seem to be enforcing their social distancing rules. They are doing a good job at sanitizing counters and other high touch surfaces. They do recommend masks at the door.
Overall, I'd probably go back, but my husband and I decided that due to large portion sizes we'd likely split meals next time. If you're looking for a solid burger joint, this is the...
