First impression review. Please note we went within the first 2 weeks of opening so there were some issues. However I still feel it should receive a 5 star rating at this point and I will explain below.
Food ordered:
Avocado fries ($11.50) perfectly crispy. Pairs well with the sauce. I found it a little bland without the sauce however my girlfriend really liked it without so it depends on your taste preference for that. Either way you won't lose as long as you like avocado ( our 3rd dining companion did not like them because he just really doesn't like avocados)
Nachos: this was the dish that we had an issue with. It came out a little soggy but we did speak with management about it and he did say that he was able to rectify it. I look forward to trying it again in the future because the flavors were good. The only issue was That it wasn't as crispy as I would like it. Not every chip has to be but in this case quite a bit of it wasn't
Molcajete bowl $19.75 plus $6.00 for prawns: This was probably the favorite of everyone. We all felt it was done well. The shrimp was not overdone and this just tasted great. It was the first to be finished. No leftovers.
Creole Chicken $19.75 At first I thought it was ok. The more I ate it, the more I liked it. It's got that restaurant punch of flavor that you are expecting. My gf thought it was spiced too much, but it is a Creole dish, so it should be adequately spiced. If you want something with no spice they have a fried chicken you can order instead. It's a safe choice but not something I would order again when I have other choices.
Service needs work, but management is addressing it. The expectation for everything to be flawless is unfair for a new place, so I didn't want to ding them for stars on that. I was impressed with how management went to all the tables and picked up any slack. There was a genuine sense of care. I was told this is not a chain (it has a bit of the chain feel and polish to it) and is a local restaurant. I love small business local restaurants and love supporting them. Chains have their place, but this does seem like they could be the best of both worlds.
While we were there we were told a lot of the specials/deals would be implemented later. I will most likely try and come back to report on that. I love a good happy hour. I did notice when I saw the menu that there are items in the happy hour that are not on their regular menu at the moment.
They are located where the old moxie was. The interior has changed significantly. It now boasts big windows that allow a lot of sunlight. Much more friendly and casual. Parking should be easy. It has its own parking lot section with more parking behind it. However, when we went it was quite busy.
Protip: ask for their hot sauce. They have 2 kinds, a habanero and another one that is made in Manitoba but has blueberry in it. Very...
Read morePopped in craving a burger. They had one on the menu- $20.5. I was skeptical as to how good it could be. It arrived on a 13" oval with a mountain of fries which were tasty but way too much. The burger itself was unremarkable. The bill arrived and for a pint of beer and the burger it was over $35. After tip over 40. Absolutely not worth it in my opinion. Better burgers that are more well-presented for cheaper elsewhere. Menu prices are absolutely insane right now.
Prior Review: We arrived about 1130 for lunch. It was a lovely day so we chose to be seated on the patio. Our server was very attentive at first, likely because we had beat the lunch rush. He brought us water and we ordered appetizers- my companion decided on the poutine and I had the French Onion Soup-you don't see this as often as you used to and I had been craving it for some time. The appetizers arrived in short order but my heavens- the poutine was a meal in itself- not sure why you'd include this in the appetizer menu. A bit of a goof if you ask me. The soup was very good- if a little salty but I enjoyed it thoroughly. A good deal of time passed before the server came back to check after first bites. The server came again to take our lunch order. I was quite full from the soup and the accompanying two garlic toast points that came with it so I opted for the pound of hot wings which were lighter that the lunch options. My companion had been so overwhelmed by the poutine they the declined to order something for lunch. I would recommend putting the poutine on the main menu and if they wish to have it as an appetizer half or third the portion. You missed out on adding another order to the bill as a result. The wings came and they were classic hot wings- crispy and with a sauce that was vinegary and with just the right amount of heat. By now the patio was fairly busy and it took two requests for the cheque but we did tip 20% on the bill. It was a good experience outside of the massive poutine appetizer. Please consider making the appetizer portion much smaller or suggesting to the customer that it should be shared between two or three diners if you intend to sample it as an appetizer. We will be back but I'm hoping the staff will be more knowledgeable when diners ask for dishes that don't make sense for the size...
Read moreFirst time there and will definitely go again! Loved the service! Immediately upon seating was given water to drink! Super nice and something I miss at other restaurants. Fast staff from start to finish. Not just our server, but every server was super pleasant. Always on top of things even when busy. Complimentary chips and salsa after 4pm too. Starters came out quick and entrees followed perfectly. Drink refills and orders were quick and on the ball. Their popcorn shrimp is super delicious! Their fries are crispy, their burgers juicy. Tried their O.G salad and found it a perfect blend and their vinaigrette just the right blend for me. Had their special of the day; beef stroganoff... The beef was perfect, not overcooked (Something I am used to from other restaurants that mix a pasta with beef) and the sauce was a delicious Alfredo. They had a chicken chipotle tortilla soup which was also amazing and thick garlic toast. Desserts were a treat. Try their bread pudding but don't expect to finish without help. Peanut butter chocolate cheesecake was very rich and any chocolate lovers dream. The child loved the ice cream soda and finished it off quickly before anyone else even thought to ask for a try.
Thought at first the popcorn shrimp was a bit expensive for a starter.. but after tasting decided worth every dollar. In the end, boyfriend wished he had ordered more on the side with his meal!
Had to take some stuff home but really wanted to try everything and already made plans to go again because we wanted to try more.
We had a large bill but that was because we ordered extras of things. Could spend as little as $25 per person with a drink if budgeting. But better to budget 30-40$ per person.
A++...
