Ha Long Bay Restaurant — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Extremely rude owner. I was there to try out the coffee because my friend recommended it, so I ordered it first and wanted to look at the menu for longer to order more food. The owner was somehow ticked off and very aggressively told me “this is a restaurant, it’s not okay to only order a drink only”, and that I have to order it for takeout. I was scared and didn’t want to confront her, so I agreed. While I was paying, the owner started to rudely repeat that I can’t just order a drink. At this point I was very angry, so I said I won’t get the coffee anymore. She proceeded to start yelling at me to never come back and chase me for a bit out of the restaurant. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at any restaurant, and I simply don’t understand why the owner acted like this when I was the ONLY customer in the place...

This is my 2nd visit to Ha Long Bay. I tried a different dish this time...chicken skewers on rice. I found it ok but not worth another try. The chicken should have been chunks of cooked breast but were like deep fried small meat and skin pieces. It seemed like they were cheaping out on the chicken they are buying. The soup that came first was like a cup of hot water with small floaty vegetables and a few dumplings. It was an odd presentation but tasted not bad. I wouldnt order this again. Pretty mediocre. The summer rolls are good. Spicy chicken with lemongrass and coconut sauce is pretty good. The ginger beef is the worst I have ever had, sticky, slimy, toxically sweet sauce without a note of ginger flavour. Beef was stringy/chewy in a way that beef should never be. Service is lacklustre at best. The only vegetable you're guaranteed to get with many dishes is onions. Lots and lots and lots of onions. Used to be a good little place to go...
