Khanh Hoa
My fiancé and I have been going to khanh hoa since they opened on Notre Dame. Their banh mi’s are one of the best we have tried. We have spoken very highly of this place and have had people come try as well. In the last two years it has been quite frustrating. We would travel across the city for these banh mi’s only to find out the restaurant is closed. No warning online or on their Facebook page. Always just a handwritten sign on their door. We have let it go and thought well it’s a small local business and maybe they had to close for an emergency. After about our 3rd attempt and the restaurant was closed we started calling before going. It’s not difficult to update your status online. The other issue we have is the customer service. It’s definitely not a welcoming place to enter. Most of the time I’m not acknowledged. I usually go up to the counter and start talking as I feel I’m being ignored. If they are that busy a simple hello I’ll be right with you would be nice. A little while ago they were closed for a few weeks/mths. When they reopened the price of the sandwiches went up. We thought that’s fair, everything else has gone up that makes sense. We ordered our regular sandwiches and found out they have put less meat in their subs! So you increase the price and take away some meat? That doesn’t look good. Increase the price to help offset your grocery cost but don’t increase and take away from the quality of the sandwich. That feels more of something sneaky to do in hopes no one will notice. The topper that made us decide not to continue with going to Khanh hoa is their machine didn’t work. So they had me etransfer money to them. They see me send it but made me wait for 10mins before I can leave. No offer of anything for the inconvenience or the fact that they didn’t trust me when I sent the money. We get home saying ok let’s maybe not go anymore with all the negative experiences we have had over the last couple of years. As we are about to eat, our sandwiches are burnt!...
Read moreI randomly heard about how a sandwich shop in Winnipeg has been identified as one of the best sandwiches in the world. I started to dig and look further into this. I spoke to some other local foodies and they heard the same thing. I made it my mission to try it out as the location is almost across the street from HSC (hospital). I don't usually frequent that area unless I have a specific reason. This night was the night. I was attending a hockey game in the evening and stopped by (party of 3). We parked curbside and we're pleasantly greeted by staff with a "Go Jets Go" as were we're all donning Jets gear. I advised them this was our first time here and had gentle banter. Made our sandwich selection and it was promptly completed. Sat down and dug right in. Loved the different flavours on my pallet. Cillantro was a great touch. I do know cillantro is not for everyone but what a way to fuse all the flavours and yummy fresh delicious bread they used. I had the pork Bahn mi sub and the cold cut sub. I ate half of each because I couldn't decide and brought the rest home. I was not disappointed. I will be returning again to try the...
Read moreThis shop was running by old couple. They only sells "banh mi" and springs roll but the taste is fantastic and authentic Vietnamese food. Bread is full of different Vietnamese ham, pickle, vegetables just for 6CAD, while grill pork/chicken/beef is 7CAD. All are delicious but my favorite is still grill pork. I can say best banh mi in town. From the owner I know all the ham, meat here was made by the owner, not from those Vietnam supper market there. That's why you can't find that anywhere else. This shop is small, no advertising, but always has a lot of order from Vietnamese community (that Western people doesn't know). My advice is call for order before pick up because it takes a bit time to make. The shop open all days a week and from 9 am to 6pm during winter and 7pm during...
