The taiyaki was delicious. The ice cream not so much. They use ice milk instead of ice cream and so it's very thin and sweet.
I do appreciate that you can add a whole variety of toppings though.
Another thing that I was sad about is that you can buy 2 pcs or 4 pcs of taiyaki and choose flavours (custard, red bean and taro) BUT YOU CANNOT COMBINE FLAVOURS. I wish it wasn't so, I would like to be able to try different flavours. There is no difference in price between the flavours so I'm not sure why you can't choose different flavours.
I ordered 2 pcs taiyaki and wanted one custard and one red bean but was only able to get custard because of that rule. It was really disappointing.
The ambiance is very chill and very close to the University of Winnipeg which is awesome.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
I will go back again, but just for the taiyaki. I hope they use better ice cream in the future. It will make the Taiyaki Ice Cream cones so...
Read moreIt was a little bit hard to find since it is on the lower level (down the stairs) of the building and we didn't know where to look but it was so worth it! My husband and I shared one cone and it was so delicious and fun! Loved the Sakura ice cream and all the different options for toppings. The fish shaped cone was so cute and I loved that it was soft like a real waffle as opposed to a regular crunchy waffle cone. The service was amazing, everyone was so friendly and our ice cream was ready super fast. It's our dream to travel to Japan one day so it was amazing to get a taste of that right here in Winnipeg! The only thing I would possibly change which has nothing to do with the service and product because it was top tier, is I would change the lighting in the sitting area to be warm toned instead of cool! Having the cool tones makes it feel very stark and makes the photos come out not as nicely, but I think some warm toned bulbs would really liven up...
Read moreThe hours listed here on google said it opens at one pm, but we went there at one pm all the way from Headingley and it was closed. The real opening time was 2:30 pm. It wasn't a problem for us since we just decided to go for a lunch nearby beforehand to kill some time. If possible it would be good to change the hours listed.
We got a chocolate ice cream with taiyaki, and some matcha with a cone.
The chocolate hard ice tasted similar to the ice cream you'd get at a grocery store, but the matcha soft serve was both delicious and unique. I'd definately recommend getting the soft serve instead of hard ice cream because it is better quality. The taiyaki was a perfect texture and the perfect amount of sweetness to complement the ice cream. We also had a sample size of Sakura. It tasted like a lighter and softer version of bubblegum ice cream.
It's such a cute location. I'll definitely be back to try more soft...
