I ordered a Village Greek Salad, Dressing and Cheese on the side, Grilled Chicken, and instead of Garlic Bread sub Rice. Its not that hard. They made what I wanted. Dressing and Feta cheese was on the side, but the grilled chicken had parmesan cheese all over it. The grilled chicken was way over spiced/seasoned and loaded with parmesan cheese. One would think if I ask for dressing and cheese on the side, and no where on the menu does it say the grilled chicken is loaded with parmesan cheese, they would omit the parmesan cheese. Not much though went into making my meal. Then there is the issue of the Village Greek Salad. This restaurant is obviously not a place where one goes for a basic easy fresh Greek Salad. Every item on the menu comes with your choice of rice, potatoes, fries, or garlic bread. You have to pay extra if you want a side salad or soup. Fair enough. I would expect they know when vegetables should be tossed. Apparently not. The Village Greek Salad had old stale cucumbers, sour tomatoes, too soft olives, and tasted like cardboard. It actually made me feel ill with the very few bites I did have. So there of course were other issues. My Husband ordered a Clubhouse. Old turkey, unsliced, so chewy like bubblegum, small serving, and came with mayo despite specifically requesting no mayo. Oh and the Rice and Potatoes tasted like over salted Lipton chicken soup mix. My Husband said they clearly lost their passion, the food was made with no love or care. I bet the person who cooked the food smokes so that why everything was so darn salty! I would rename the place to a Greasy Diner, definitely not a Greek Restaurant. Thankfully we never...
Read moreHad dinner here on March 16, around 7pm. Got the ‘lighter portion’ chicken souvlaki, Greek fries & tiramisu.
My experience was kind of all over the place! The main food was absolutely delicious, and had great portions. Almost too big!
The service was good, our waitress was kind & decently attentive considering she was by herself. However, being right beside the kitchen window, I heard the kitchen frequently and loudly talking down to the waitress, which was unpleasant, unprofessional, and frankly rude(to the waitress, who maintained complete composure & professionalism). They were quite loud & obnoxious in general, but the disrespect for their waitress stood out to me.
The tiramisu was wildly disappointing. I got this to go, otherwise I would have sent it back for sure. Must have been frozen for a while, the entire cake portion was wet, incredibly soggy, it was inedible. I picked at it a bit, looking for a dry piece, before giving up and just tossing it. The icing was good, so I imagine it would have been delicious if it was fresh. $7 for that was completely not worth it.
So overall I am torn because this place has a lot of great qualities, but could still use quite a bit of...
Read moreI wanted to get this review in while it was still fresh. Ok, WOW, just WOW! I did a takeout (cold call, not in advance) of 2 beef/lamb gyros and I’m going to say, these may be the best I’ve ever had (and I’m an older guy who has enjoyed a fair bit of Greek food north of my beltline). The food came quickly, nicely wrapped in wax & foil, in case of a reheat. They didn’t last that long….the trick to these was the perfect balance of fresh pita, with just the right chew, the blend of tzatziki, red onion, tomato, shredded lettuce and maybe olive? and the abundance of seasoned, but not overwhelming beef & lamb mix. It’s the meat that is often shorted but these did not skimp.
The food speaks for itself, good is always good and if these could be better, they don’t need to be. The bonus for me was having the owner, Costa pop out of the kitchen to say hello and shake my hand personally. Nothing forced or fake, this young man and his gal (she was a constant-moving-machine), represent the level of quality and friendly service that our city can never get enough of. Go, just go…..the only regret I have is that I didn’t buy...
