I'm NOT coming back to this place. The clock for the 2-hour eating limit starts as soon as the first from your group sits down, and they WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR FOOD when the clock is done (for them).
We picked this place for our xmas lunch for convenience. My friends got there earlier at 1 pm and I had to get there around 1:30, so I told them to not wait for me and put in the order for all-you-can-eat lunch.
We were having a great time catching up with each other. At about 2:50, my soup stopped boiling, but it was full of food and there was still fire so I waited thinking it would boil again soon. At 3, it still didn't boil, so I asked the guy owner to come check. He came and said, "you guys are over the 2-hour limit. You can't eat any more." I was shocked but told him, "sorry I had no idea." He got upset, as if I was trying to take advantage of him, and semi-yelled at me: "It was clearly WRITTEN!! You came at 1, it's now 3, you can't eat anymore."
I told him I arrived at 1:30, and asked what to do with the food. Then he started putting them away. My friend offered her base to me and asked him if we could switch; he switched it, then took their plates of food back to the kitchen. He was staring at me when I put in the fish from my plate, and he came over and took the rest away so I can't put more in. Sooo RIDICULOUS.
There were many signs in the restaurant but none was about the 2-hour limit. I asked my friends if they knew about the time limit, they said they didn't, so we read through the menu carefully on our way out. It's there. Lesson learned: read all fine prints. š But if the eating time limit is THAT important that you had to take away our food, how about a few friendly verbal reminders? Neither the guy owner nor the girl server mentioned anything at all after I arrived - not when they came to add broth, not when we went to them for more food & drinks.
Their ingredients were fresh and the girl server was super kind, but I paid $40 + tips for this all-you-can-eat lunch, and I can easily get all the ingredients + soup bases at asian supermarkets for that, minus the "no-you-can't-eat-anymore". So, nah, I'm not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have to rate this place a five star, and I know what I am saying, I have been in China three times! This is, by far, by far, the best hot pot dig in the whole city. They are from Shenyang, at least some of the staff, which is cool because Shenyang is a very cool city in North East China.
The servers have good English, are friendly and fast, and the food is exceptionally fresh, which is, in this business of hot pot, a lot to say. The sauce bar is also fresh and has a great variety, and the ambiance is great, warm, and clean. The selection of items is great, for what you can find in Canada, and lots of imported things as well. There are some very hidden gems in the venue that I guess Chinese are very fond of, like Pizzles. I will let you discover what Pizzles stands for. If you happen to try it, please let me know.
You can choose from different soup base varieties, and all are good. Last time I tried Chicken herbs, and was great. Lamb is great too.
The only thing they don't have, and they have a great variety of fresh wheat noodles, is udon. I don't know why. If you guys are reading this review, please add them to the menu.
I think this place caters both to Chinese and Canadian, and that is great too. I think it is reasonably priced, and it is an authentic hot pot experience.
The city lost a great authentic hot pot place (Fulin), when the cook came back to Shenyang at the end of the summer. That was really a thing, but the soup base, exceptional in taste, was also very, very, very rich, if you know what I mean. Lots of fat, and terrible amount of heat. These soup bases are much healthier and really full of flavour as well.
Asia Hot Pot is a very reputable successor. Welcome to the city and pleas stay! You are doing ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHi
I went to have dinner in this restaurant on 12 Aug 2020. We ordered 2 Hotpots for us. First of all, it is a covid-19 situation worldwide. But this resto is so disgusting that they are giving people used chopsticks for people to eat food after washing them. This is beyond imagination. They should get a hefty fine for this. We requested for one-time chopstick, and they provided one but now I am not sure if those ones were used or new anymore. Then started a horrible service that I never got from a restaurant until now. Restaurant server was very weak in English which we realized later because we told her and ordered soup base and other things that are not from pork.
At the end of our dinner when she came to give more broth and I asked what is it made of? She said it's from pork. We had to ask her maybe almost 5/6 times that we dont eat pork and. But she didn't understand our concern. Then we asked to talk to someone who knows English preferably a supervisor. The supervisor came in and we explained then she said she will talk to the owner. She went to kitchen and she came back as saying they cannot do anything. When we asked to talk to the owner, she said the owner doesn't know English.
Now why I have to go through all this if they have an issue with English. They are providing a service in Canada and they shouldn't be servicing a customer without knowing proper English. What if somebody drops by with nut allergy and they serve something with Nut or gluten which can be fatal. Without further a due we left after paying bill for a food that we cannot eat. They didn't even apologized for all of this.
Please avoid this restaurant until they rectify...
