We had a lovely experience at MLYN, a cozy and authentic Ukrainian restaurant that truly feels like a little piece of home. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with traditional decor and a relaxed, friendly vibe.
We tried the Shuba salad, Vinaigrette, and Syrnyky — and everything was delicious. The salads were fresh and full of flavor, especially the Shuba, which was beautifully layered and perfectly balanced. But the highlight of the meal was definitely the Syrnyky. They were soft, warm, and just melted in your mouth — absolutely the best I’ve had in a long time!
The staff were kind and attentive, making sure we felt comfortable and had everything we needed. It’s clear that a lot of care and love goes into both the food and the service.
If you’re looking to enjoy authentic Ukrainian dishes in a charming and comfortable setting, I highly recommend MLYN. We’re already looking forward to...
Read moreMy wife and I were visiting from the U.S. and upon learning that Winnipeg has a significant Ukrainian population, we decided that we needed to give Ukrainian food a try!

We decided on the salo (kind of like Ukrainian charcuterie) as an appetizer, my wife got the holupsi and I got the banosh with some kwas to drink.
First of all, kwas? Big fan. It's a drink that I would say it reminds of kombucha but more mellow. Also, the banosh was fantastic. Savory and crispy pork bits with the light, fluffy cornmeal was a good combo. We really enjoyed our meal! I would say that was an excellent first-time experience with...

However, there were a few disappointments. The kruchenyky were served in noticeably different sizes and looked a bit underwhelming for the $25 price point—the plate felt sparse. We also ordered deruny as an appetizer, but they arrived at the end of our meal and were unfortunately undercooked, though nicely presented. To the restaurant’s credit, they were removed from the bill.
The potential is definitely there, but improvements in timing, consistency, and presentation would make a big difference. I look forward to seeing how the...
