Cafe in a Bookstore Stumbled upon this place when looking for a lunch spot while visiting Winnipeg. Nice to see a bookstore that hasn't become the victim of big corporation cannibalization. Food Order the brie and date grilled cheese with a side of fries. Sandwich was buttered on the outside to my liking. Cheese was gooey which I enjoyed. The addition of the dates was good but nothing exceptional. The fries were truly unremarkable. They need something to make them stand out. An interesting seasoning, perhaps or served with some sort of dip like a chipotle mayo, for example. The fries were on the softer size rather than crispy how I like them. I get that this is all personal preference. In general, the meal was fine. Service Server was polite, attentive. Food was served within minutes of ordering. Atmosphere As someone who loves bookstores, the cafe was the perfect complement. The crowd appeared to lean to the older size - 60 plus - but that's no criticism. It made for a civil atmosphere making the place feel like it's loved and embraced by the locals. Conclusion If I'm ever back in town, I'd give this place a second chance but would probably try something else on the menu. Food aside, I'd support this place if only because it's a local bookstore and bookstores have been disappearing from our neighborhoods. Hope this one sticks around for many years for those to enjoy who live in the neighbourhood. Give this place your support if you're able.

A cafe in a bookstore, just what an avid reader wants. We had a great experience, our vaccine cards and I’d very checked by a smiling hostess who escorted us inside. The tables were clean and the menu had something for everyone. It was well plated and tasty. Enjoyed my salmon sandwich with fries. The server was friendly, I gave it one star less as they were out of a lot of desserts at lunch time, definitely a disappointment for me. My sister had the apple cobbler, she loved it.she took it warm with ice cream along , was a huge helping , three of us took a few bites each to finish it. We also tried their smoothie , it was well balanced and just the right consistency, served in a nice talk glass. The soup and salad combos are very attractively priced and the helping is pretty decent. The Greek salad was fresh and looked healthy. Would definitely recommend this for those looking for healthy options. Post lunch we ordered Americano too , once again were impressed with the glass used for it . 5 stars for that. Did not take pics of the cafe and display case , left it for our next visit. Would love to see there display case full , I guess with city opening this too shall happen. I’m surely going to come again and try out more salads and desserts .

Recently went here for lunch with my boyfriend on a Sunday. Though I was grateful that they found a non reserved spot for us during a moderately busy lunch time, it was in a cramped corner at a small table. I would have preferred they have us wait for the next spot since there was no one after us waiting. The restaurant seemed bright and cheerful but we didn't get to enjoy it being in the corner. My boyfriend had the beef noodle bowl, which he said was good but not great. I had the peanut soup and salmon sandwich with the mango salsa on the side. The sandwich flavours were good but I was disappointed with the portion of salmon. The salsa was slightly sweet but bland, it lacked an acid like lemon or lime, and needed a pinch of salt. I ended up adding it to the soup to help improve the soup's taste. For dessert, we had a slice of chocolate fudge cake which was surprising not great. It had the fudge part right but lacked a good chocolate flavour. I'd probably go back, I'd just try completely different things.

Best server Carlos. He only works on Saturdays though. It's a beautiful space with the majority of the dining area in a partial atrium. They have a number of vegan options which is great for when I go with my vegan friends. We did try the spaghetti squash and it was very good. The bison burger patty was enormous. They know how to make their food look fantastic and very instagramable. It came with a side. My friend chose soup but that was the only non memorable item. It wasn't bad, but everything else was amazing. The desserts are all made in house. Our picks were the salted caramel tart and the blueberry mousse cheesecake. Both were exceptionally tasty. I'm more into fruit but I found myself going for that caramel. It's very nicely done It's very convenient to have dinner or dessert there then head to the movie. (Or vice versa) Parking is available in a huge lot as it is part of the grant park shopping center, inside the McNally Robinson.

I came here for breakfast. I wasn't disappointed. First time eating here not sure what to expect, but let me tell you it was worth it. Limited menu but well rounded. Something for everyone one. If you have food allergies, this restaurant can serve you. The wait staff we kind, polite and nice. Plenty of natural light and space. The amount of food based on price was perfect. The only issue I had was the potatoe hashbrowns were a little under cooked. I had their New York Style Cheesecake for dessert. It was a large piece. It took me a little while to eat. It was worth the money spent. I would highly recommend visiting this establishment for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even coffee and dessert. Also, at no point did I feel rushed to leave. I was able to take my time and enjoy what I was eating.

So, Prairie Ink has been around for ages and it’s located in McNally Robinson’s book store. I’ve gone here for a bite when I’ve hit up a movie at Landmark Theatres at Grant Park mall. The food here is decent but not mind-blowing … I’ve mostly ordered soups, salads and sandwiches. The desserts that I’ve ordered are ok but not amazing, though maybe it’s due to bad luck on account of the ones I chose to order. The place is looking a tad worn from all the years of use, but it sorts of works given that the restaurant has a history to it, being in the same location for decades. Prairie Ink has live music a couple of nights per week. The crowd that comes here is typically older (as with all of Grant Park) which I love because it’s quiet and laid back ;)
